Installed MAF improperly?

Ok So here is what happend I installed my maf myself maybe a week or two ago. Everything was fine. Today after school I started up my car and had it had a weird rumble to it liek the whole car was vibrating like a very hard idle. So im trying to figure out what this is and I notice I dont have much power when I gave it gas. I look down and my SES light is Flashing so im like oh crap and drive home and it turns off. So I figured it was my MAF and when I look in i noticed i didnt screw down the silver circular clamp that goes around the rubber . I have no SES light now but im worried mayb eI have messed up my maf?

The hose clamp is downstream of the MAF and your air filter. Your MAF is fine. By not tightening that you sucked unfiltered air into your engine. If you messed up anything you messed up your engine.

I wouldn't want to suck unfiltered air into my engine for a week or 2 but since the CEL only went off once and you corrected it right away you are probably fine.

I recently bought a 00 Maxima and find my Gas milage is around 15 MPG CITY and that is unheard of. I read somewhere that the 00 Edition of the 5th gen maximas had a problem with The Mass Airflow Sensor. How do I know for sure if it's just that or something else is wrong. Could it be just a tune up?

I don't think that the hose clamp has anything to do with your problem. As far as I remember everything sits pretty tight and the clamp is there just in case.

ye, could be maf, could be o2 sensors, could be lots of things here, is there a Check Engine Light? and 15 city isnt as bad as u think. normal for city is like 17-18, how hard do u drive?

as for original thread, i hightly doubt that u messes anything up, maybe there was a vacume leak somewhere? if the car drives fine and no engine light anymore dont worry.

My experience

I know this is a long dead thread, just sharing a bone-headed thing I did recently.

I was up too late one night changing my daughters MAF sensor. I did a test drive. The car idled rough at startup, but ran fine. After the engine warmed, the idle was much better. I thought I heard an air leak, but wasn't quite sure.

Next day, my daughter calls and tells me her car will barely idle. After looking at the mass airflow sensor, I had neglected to tighten the hose clamp. I tightened it, but it didn't close the gap. I grabbed the old MAF sensor, and there was a rubber grommet on it. DOH! I put the grommet on the new sensor and the car runs like a new one!

It's embarrassing, but maybe it will help someone else down the road!
