XM subscribers step inside.

Quick question to you guys. Where did you mount ur antenna. The person installing my car seems to think it will be okay underneath the front dash along with the gps unit (I got a navy) I just want to make sure thats a good spot for it and that i wont experience more dropouts as a result of this. Thanks.

Dude, If the size of that antenna is smaller then your car, then you should not put it under the dash. Mine is on the back of the roof, centered. Couple of inches forward from rear glass. When i drive under the bridge, I have dropouts.

Under the dash? must be some high gain antenna developed by military.

Are u sure he isn't asking you about receiver to be put under the dash? my is in the trunk.

When I had a N1 and then a D1 with XM they ran both antennas, which are identical, mind you, right under the dash to where they came out where the dash met the windshield on the passenger side. It was a really clean install and the reception was flawless. I suggest you do that.

I have the Pioneer Airware, and i ran my antenna wire underneath the passengers seat, up the side and since it has a magnetic bottom, I stuck it to one of the baby seat anchors. Works perfectly, doesn't move, and I get great reception. I used to have it mounted on the roof on my SE-R, but it scratched my roof.

Was it all the way in the corner? Wouldn't the pillar block some "view"? And do you mean that it also block the vent for the defrost? (trying to figure out the placement).
The guy has sirius installed underneath the dash and says it works good. If he puts it in the rear deck where the baby seat anchors are; Would my 20% tint affect the reception?

If your tint is metallic, which most "mid grade tint" is, it will hurt reception. I have my Sirius antenna mounted on the roof, centered above the windshield. There are some very small antennas (XM and Sirius are the same, works with either) that when mounted near the window trim are nearly invisible. I'd suggest that.

Think of where your VIN is. Then go to the passenger side. That is where the antenna proper sits.

I ran mine along the console under the passengers seat then under the trim that runs along both door on the floor, through the back seat into the trunk and its mounted in the middle of my trunk (inline with the center spoiler support). Sounds complicated but it took me 3 minutes to run it.

Under the dash is fine. We did this for my wife's Forester and it works like a gem. Just make sure it is not covered by any metal.

I've got the one thats just bigger than a starburst candy... well 1.5x the size of a starburst. I have it mounted on my truck... right where the trunk meets the rear window, dead center... hardly noticeable.

This one...

On the dashboard, behind the clock, in between the 2 air vents. Works perfectly. I have done this with two different units.

my install bay does dozens of these a day, the best place is still right between the windsheild and the moonroof. but since thats ugly the 03maxima1 way is the way we do insatlls all the time. i dont have my unit installed yet, but im thinking of mounting it above the mirror prob make a lil plate or something, itll hid behinf the mirro on top of my radar. but ill see how well that works when the time comes.

the wires are hidden within the windwheild lining, looks rather nice, i wouldnt do it on my car, but its the prefered location for reception purposes.

No "he" isnt referring to the receiver, but the antenna itself. 100s done this way and Zero problems.

Your sarcasm really isnt needed if you obviously havent tried it and dont have a clue of whether it works or not.

Cool thanks Don. I know you did the Sirius this way just wasn't sure if the XM would be the same being that the satellites appear to be in one place all the time.

*EDIT* And yea I was referring to the antenna.
