i'm currently in the process of getting a new 02 sensor. Since i have a y-pipe and both sensors are monitoring the same pre-cat, i know that its the sensor because i only have the P0430 code.

If is the cat will replacing it with a high flow cat be a better option rather than the OEM because the OEM is expensive i was quoted like 600 just for the cat. I saw some high flow cats for like 200. something online.
So if anyone here knows let me know.

i had the p0420 code a few weeks back and autozone cleared it. It hasn't come back yet and it has been about 3 weeks and maybe 400 miles. I have a y-pipe also so it is not the pre-cats. If I do have to replace the cat, I will do the hi-flow aftermarket route that is much cheaper than OEM.

I have not done it myself but that is what I understand from reading the forums. Also from what I understand there is no issue with emissions (without the precats) as long as the car is at operating temperature.

You could read this thread for more info...

I have a cat and a pre-cat. Anyone need one? one's name is schnookooms and the other's purrrsy.

Get the O2 sim, its only $30. This will fix all your kitty problems. works for fed-spec and Cali-spec, y-pipe or no y-pipe.

P0420 My experience 2001 Max

P0420 code was reset by dealer with ECU update at 70,000

P0420 code returned at 135,000 miles, dealer wanter to replace catalytic converter, estimate $1100.00, I declined.

Replaced all 4 oxygen sensors with Bosch Universal type at 146,000 miles for $266.00.

P0420 code is gone
Passed inspection with emissions test in Mass.

Replace the O2 sensors and reflash the ECU, stay away from the O2 simulators which essentially are stop gap setups. These setups will hurt you if you live in a state like CA where the emissions check with expose these arrangements!!! My $0.02 since I have done this before.

o2 sim questions

02 simulator question:

Alright I have an 2000 maxima with 120k miles. The P0420 came on and the precat was replaced at 100k miles, so I know with a garage kept car there is no way this thing has broken down.

The www.02sim.com link has been on backorder for 3 months now.

Can someone link me to EXACTLY the o2 sims I need.
Regarding installation,
Do I cut all o2 simulators and put a sim on the end of each one?
Do I need the dual sims or the individual or will it matter?

Thank you!

Yep, just screw the O2 simulator into the O2 sensor socket and screw the O2 sensor into the simulator socket. Problem solved for $2 if you do it yourself.

Subscribed. Based on the last two epic bumps, I should receive a notification in about 5.5 years.
