yea but it almost doesnt matter if someone is looking for "hot" parts to begin with, or does it?

on the other hand, if our hoods can be opened easily, could we devise something to make it harder to open?

they never opened the hood, they stuck a screw driver between the light and the fender and broke the lights out, thats what left the fenders and bumper all f'ed

Why Maximas...

By the way why is it the maximas are so targeted for the HID's why not Acura's or Lexus??
Well theres a prety simple reason why they target Maximas, It's easy for them to fold the fenders/hood, unscrew a couple of screws and not only do they get the lights but they get the ballast with it. I think the other companies put the ballsat further in the engine bay as a theft deterrent.

I also had an idea but don't kow if it will damage the ballast or fixture. Using an engraver (such as to scrach) your vin # on the ballast. This wont deter a theif from taking them, but will deter them from resale.

An addition to this (I don't know if its safe) There might be a way to put your vin # on the glass/plastic lense. (Again, these are just ideas and I take no responsibility for damages or failures)

If the headlights comeout easily it may be wise to etch something on the light housing and ballasts.
I read the first couple of posts 2 days ago and having a couple of extra miutes I decided to write my thoughts...I DIDN'T copy your Idea, I only read it after I posted my thoughts.

yep the head hunters probably have his stolen HID's, too bad a few of us together cant tinker around and come up with some ideas on securing our HID's a lil bit better, maybe some type of bracket? I dunno, let me know something
Designing a bracket won't do us too mugh good, they'le only realize that the HID's are harder to remove after they've bent up the surrounding body.

you know what i was thinking when ever anybody opens up the healights to either paint/clear out amber/ or put in DDE's why dont we write or scratch the vin # on the inside of the headlight where it is visible from the outside??

example A (on the bottom flat part of the headlight right under the DDEs)

bought some aftermarket replacement lights $532, came complete with HID's the whole nine yards. they fit really good, i mean as good as they get being that the fenders are all bent up, but the gaps on the hood and bumper look really good. Car goes to nissan next week to get the body work done. Now i feel like i need to sleep in my car with my 9mm. alarm ASAP!!

Don't worry, I35 headlights are much harder to steal and more time consuming. You'll know what I mean if you ever change your HID bulb.

Which if you search around ebay for an lenght in time you will see our headlights selling were the tabs are broken or have been repaired. These for the most part are the stolen ones. I have heard reports of people stealing them in 20 minutes. There is a alarm write up for our HID that I highly recommend just search for it.

here is a perfect example
