needs new inner or outer tie rod..right price?
I brought my car into an auto shop to have 4 new tires mounted and balanced and to get a front end alignment. they called me and said that they noticed that the tie rod came loose or something like that i forgot what he said exactly..but he said it needed tobe replaced... it was $75 for the part n $68 for labor. car has 58,000 miles..and what causes a car to need new tie rods? im not sure whether he said it was inner or outer tie rod.

If they are telling you you need a "lower" tie rod, I would take it somewhere else or have them show you the bad part and explain how they know it is bad. Tie rods are refered to as inner and outer, not upper and lower. But chances are that something is bad if the alignment guy found it. You just need to get them to be more specific.

yea that sounds like what they said..i dont know much about the underneath of cars..but i did tell them to save all old parts so i can look at the old ones and have someone figure out what went wrong and why but thanks for the info 9D.

tie rod costs $45 from DaveB, and takes about 5 minutes to take out the old one and put in a new one.....you do need an alignment afterwards.
take it elsewhere if he said "lower tie rod"....there is no such part.
