It's not the starter..What else could be causing start problems

I first noticed it about 5 months back. Most of the time it will turn, then abruptly stop. After retrying a couple of times, it will fire-up. I thought it would be the starter. Just changed the starter and the problem remains.

Any ideas????

Yup. Battery is fine..Last 3 starts were fine. Only thing I did different was depress the gas pedal once...So fuel related perhaps???I changed the fuel filter a few months back. Even prior to the fuel filter change, it did it once or twice...

It is confirmed after 10 starts. If I depress the acc pedal once, before starting, she fires-up just fine.....Now what??

Possibly ignition switch/ starter relay. Do you have a remote starter? the handheld kind that you hook up to the battery and directly to the starter solenoid. This can confirm the operation of the starter as it is installed on the car. If there is no problem starting with the hand held, then the problem has to lie in the signal circuit. Good luck.

Might be the key fob dying. Try using the other key for a while.

Please explain how that matters. As I posted above, she starts fine if I depress the acc pedal before starting. Today I did not giver her gas, and she started fine

There's a kill switch that's linked to your key fob. If the battery in the key chip is dying, it may not allow the car to start. I also think it'll be stuck in park, so next time try putting the key in the run position (even though the car won't) and try shifting.

perhaps a weak fuel pump? i always had starting issues unless i turned the key to on and started it within a few seconds of hearing the fuel pump whine. if i started immediately it would hesitate starting and sometimes had to be cranked multiple times and the same was true if the fuel pump primed then sat for too long before starting.

That is what I think is the problem. I was going to get the fuel pressure checked today. Of course it has not done it at all today..
