Swap '01-'03 Steering Wheel Audio Controls & Airbag onto '00 Possible?

Is it possible to put a 01' or higher steering wheel into a '00? I am buying a '00 I30t soon, and I am SOOO used to my '01's audio controls on the steering, I will miss that feature a lot. The airbag looks so nice on the 5.5Gen too, it would be best if i could put in a 5.5Gen airbag and audio controls onto the '00. If anyone have done it or knows how to do it, please chime in. Thanks!

the only problem you will have for sure is the plugs ( connectors ), the wiring is another story....

Yeah that's 1 of my 3 concerns. If I buy a '01-'03 steering wheel and airbag, would that solve the connector issue? The other 2 things I am concerned about is the compatibility with the airbag system (control unit?), and the bose head unit connections in the rear.

Does anyone have rear pictures of the bose for '00 '01 and '02?

the boses' are different so no go on the steering controls. you can make do with the airbags.

I thought the '00s and '01s are the same.

You would also need the spiral connector on for the steering wheel harness to have a harness to plug the steering wheel buttons in. I dont see a reason that they would ahve prewired this for an 00, but I'd double check to make sure the parts are diff/same.

the only spare plug in my bose (00) is for the CD changer.

btw, your post said 03 so that's even more confusing. 02+03 are definitely different.

unless you have been in an accident and had the airbags deploy, why would you wanna do this? IMO it is a huge waste of money, these things arent cheap.

If it's do-able, then I can keep an eye on ebay and .org for a good deal, something under $500 would be well worthed it for me.

I included 5.5Gen in my original post because that's the airbag that I like, but I would be happy with an '01 Maxima's that has the audio controls too. If the 5.5Gen's do work, then I have a higher chance of finding one. The '01-'03 I30's airbag looks the same as the '02-'03 Maxima's, they changed the design 1 year earlier, so I do have the option of using an '01 I30's if the 5.5Gen airbags are incompatible.

Thanks everyone for your inputs.

I want to change my 5.5 gen wheel with a 6gen wheel and the stealership said they wouldn't touch it because there are so many different steering wheels that Nissan uses. I know also that I ran into different airbag technology. Your best bet is to just get used to the controls that come with the car you want. It is a pain at first, but you will adapt.

are your hands too short so you cannot reach the stereo?

Haha no, but it's a convinience that I would hate to give up.

For example, we don't NEED to have remote door locks, but once you're used to it, you don't want to go back.

just upgrade your HU with something that has a remote, that would be a better decision, not to mention cheaper, than changing the steering wheel just for controls.
