I have read a list of relevant threads regarding the Tein H-Tech springs, and it seems that here have been isolated complaints about bottoming out- but this is not consistent. I have also heard that the ride is fine. Keep in mind- this is not about the handling, unless it pertains to hitting the bump stops- I just want/need to know if people are hitting their bump stops on the street- either in corners or on the highway.

Please list no or yes (if yes, which end of the car), and which struts you run, as well as auto/manual trans.

Thanks!

When I ran them I found them to bottom out (in the front only, never ever bottomed out in the rear) on HARD corners, and bumpy roads (city level).

The only times I would bottom out on the highway would be at expansion joints between roads and bridges where they'd either swelled up or sunk down.

I ran them with Illuminas (always) and with about 1" trimmed from the bumpstops. Tried front Illumina settings from 1-5 with no noticeable decrease in "bottoming out."

And for those who will take offense...this is just my experience/observation. They weren't bad springs at all. I think the springs in front just needed to be a little stiffer to be "perfect."

Yea I hit the bump stops on big bumps. I haven't cut them yet, I probably should. But the bridges are a big problem, those joints are really annoying. I only hit the bump stops in the front.

I have H-techs and have never bottomed out. Cincinnati has some horrible streets, too.

Before i got my RSB, i had never bottomed out, but ever since, if there's any kind of weight in the back (cargo or people) i hear a pretty loud clunk....

i live in Louisiana, home of the crappiest roads in the U.S. so even if i were stock, i think the results would be the same....

That's different. My sway bar makes honking sounds.

You know I did - but I drive alot more aggressively than your wife. If I was looking for a nice, cushy ride, the H-techs give that better than any other spring out there. Unfortunately, for the terrible roads in DC that I drive every day and the autocrosses that I run they are too soft.

Are you reconsidering buying mine off of me? If so, let me know - I can sell them for more $$ to someone else than I was going to give them to you for...

I have no bottoming out problems at all and I have hit some pretty severe bumps/expansion joints etc and I have my bumpstops trimmed 1" up front

i said both in front and rear but the rear is really rare, so mostly front. I have stock shocks/struts, bumpstops not cut, 5 spd. The bottoming out isnt that bad though and happens every once in a while on bad bumps. Not enough to complain about.

I can't believe how much I bottom out, I've trimmed an inch off the front and it still bottoms out. I think I'll be doing something different, just can't decide what to do yet, I love the way it looks, but I hate bottoming out.....sigh.

Yup me and Krupp did the same sep up, the same bump stop cut procedure and I hit the same pretty terrible roads across the nation as he did, and no bump stop hitting here.

Hey Pat... I have H-techs in the front and Progress in the back, Illuminas are set 2F 4R, and I've not hit my UNcut bumpstops in the front except for when I hit big bumps.

IMO, ride quality is better than when I had Progress up front (with the same Illumina settings). Tires are Falken 512s in 235/45/17 on stock rims and are 36 psi all round.

I bought John’s (MetaOrbit) H-Tech’s and installed them over the weekend. So far, I have not bottomed out, but have only been driving 2+ days with them on. I trimmed 1.5” off both the front and rear bump-stops, and am running the stock struts for now FYI…..

Happy with the drop of the H-Tech’s (it’s the exact drop that I was looking for), and thus far there seems to be a slight improvement in performance, although with the stock setup (struts), I was not expecting HUGE gains in this area….

Glad to hear you got them installed without a hitch. Seems that some folks have trouble with the bottoming out and some don't. Glad you fell into the latter group.

I loved the look of the springs, and likely, had the fronts been a tad bit stiffer (and had I known I wasn't going to be moving N.O. after all) I would have kept them.

Here is a question for everybody whos car is lowered.

I want to lower my car, but I am afriad that I will bottom out when backing out of my driveway. Where I live there are many bumps and potholes because of all the construction that is going on.

anybody recommend anything?
thanks

Don't lower your car?

Seriously though, you know that people are speaking about "bottoming out" here in reference to hitting the bumpstops, and not scraping the ground, right?

H-Techs - you won't have to worry about scraping on speedbumps and things. As with any lowered car though, you'll have to be careful on steep driveways/entrances etc. to prevent your front bumper from scraping. I've had a few different springs on this car, and while front end scrapes on driveways are always a concern, I've never had a problem with dragging/scraping my undercarriage on the road because of my ride height.

I have had mine for about 60K miles. Haven't bottomed out once. Not while cornering or on bridge joints, or city streets. They are paired with KYB GR-2's.
