2001 AE SE 5-speed with 200,000 miles

Would anyone of you buy this car with those kind of miles on it if the price was right? Please post your opinions and anything else you would like to say, I am very intersted in hearing everyone. Thank you very much in advance.

i dont think a motor swap would be necessary as i have seen with my own eyes, the VQ30 exceed 285,000 miles....if it was properly maintaned u should be able to run it for at least another 100,000 if not, many more....

i agree witht the others tho, the price has to be right..

hows the clutch?? how many have they been through??

^ Agreed. I'd feel uncomfortable with buying a 5-year old car with that many miles.

that's a bunch of miles; if the guy has taken meticulous care of the car (records and reciepts of service and any work on the car), then it would be a good buy. otherwise, don't take it, because it could be a bucket full o' problems.

Well my 01 has 155K miles on it now, and runs like a champ- but I am one of those conpulssive maintenance dissorder type of people. So I change my Power steering fluid every 2 years, brake fluid every year, coolant 2 times a year, oil changes every month, and MT fluid change every 6mo. I do plugs every 30K miles, cause they are cheap and I can afford to do it.

If the car was maintained right, 200K mile motor is nothing to worry about. I wonder how the paint is ?

also keep in mind that if it has 200k miles in such a short time span (50k per year), they are probably mostly highway miles, which are not all that hard on the car.....

Look at the overall condition of the car. Most likely engine is in the same condition as everything else. (it doesn't mean that you shouldn't check for obvious things like oil smell, black residue on the back of the oil cap, etc...)

with that many miles:

1) MAF is worn
2) IACV is worn
2) bearings are worn
4) axle seals are worn
5) rotors are worn
6) exhaust is rusted like crazy
7) VIAS is destroyed

and so forth.

Seeing is believing. There have been plenty of 200k plus cars at the dealership I work at, but it's all about maintenence. We had to put an engine in an 03' max with 40k due to sludging (car had one documented oil change), and i've seen 150k engines disassembled that you could eat off of. If you are looking to improve performance, I would have to agree with the swap idea. However if you just need a good car to drive, then run it till it dies. Good luck.

you will need to replace all teh normal components that wear out with time. if the car interior and exterior are in good condition, less than $3.5-4k is reasonable.

very true, keep in mind all moving parts, not onlyn will u need an engine swap but ull have to change soo many things it may just be too much of a head ache. id say about 120 is tops to buy a used car with, inspect EVERYTHING.

If I decide to go ahead with this car, I'll take it to a shop so everything could get inspected. The interior is in great condition, supposedly all of those miles where put on the highway which I can see happening. But the motor & tranny will probably get swapped/rebuild since I have a S/C which is going on that car. As for the rest of the moving parts, I know those might give me a headache. Thank you very much to everyone for all of your reply, please keep them coming.

What other lower mile cars are in the same price range? You're mostly looking at domestics or really cheesy imports.

I'd look at it like this. If you can afford a lower mile Maxima then get one. If your budget is a few thousand then get this car before getting a lower mile domestic.

I'd drive a 200,000 mile Maxima before driving a cheap domestic. My last one had just under 200k when I traded it and I was rough on it.

all i gotta say is take it to a shop and lift it up. You can tell a whole lot about a car by putting it up on a lift. They are more likely highway miles.

That drivers seat must be pretty worn too. Check for rust too. If the price was right, I'd buy it.

I am not going to sell it, this is just going to be another car which I would like to purchase.
