is my A/C compressor broken?
It's hot hella in California right now and my A/C isn't working. When i press the auto button i hear the A/C compressor turn on for 2 secs, then it shuts off and blows warm air, but when i let my car sit in a cool garage for a couple hours it work fine until i get into the hot hot heat.
Can someone help me?

Some ideas...
Do the radiator fans come on when the compressor engages? If not, the condenser pressure will quickly rise and cause the compressor to cut out. (You want this, it protects the compressor and the hoses.) If this is your problem, then above 30 mph (more or less, depending on outside temp) the a/c would work OK because the forward motion of the car provides adequate condenser air.
Is the system overcharged with refrigerant? Or does it have air in it? Either could happen if you added refrigerant yourself or had an incompetent shop do it. High condenser pressure again...
Some other possibilities... bad clutch electromagnet, bad a/c control head (sounds like you have the auto a/c), maybe a bad condenser pressure sensor...

Have the system serviced by a qualified A/C tech.
Troubleshooting starts by evacuating the system to see how much R134 is (or is not) in there. Then a proper charge (by weight) of R134 is put into the system. As long as everything is working correctly, you'll have ice cold A/C.
I suspect the reason your compressor is jumping out is because your tripping the low pressure safety switch on the suction side as soon as it starts to run.
