Gonna raise this dead horse, but after all the talk about Calipers, Caliper brackets and wheels no one mentioned brake lines. Do the 5.5 lines screw right in to 6th gen calipers and gave the needed length for full lock to lock steering and suspension travel? Thx

Ok so just to clarify, the "bracket" is the piece that wraps around the outside of the caliper, and the 6th gen caliper will directly bolt up to the 5.5, correct?

YES

People posting in here asking questions should refrain from doing so and instead take a look at the FIRST post in this thread.

Sorry I should have clarified, when working on my brakes recently I saw the bracket as being part of the caliper, and wasn't sure if there was an adaptive bracket of some sort, that I needed to do the 6th gen upgrade. I'm fairly new to working on my car, but thanks to this site I have learned a lot. I have installed spacers, new vc gaskets, a motor mount and many other regular maintenance parts, which I never would have done without the help of the org. As far as the mounting question, I did read the thread, I just thought it wouldn't hurt to double check while I was posting.

Would anyone happen to know if 2004 g35x 17" wheels (6 spoke) clear 6th gen bbk? It has similar specs to the 5.5 bars 17x7 and 45 offset.

I'd loosely say it would only because the V35 has the same brakes as the A34, or at least the rotor.

6gen brake upgrade

I have a 2003 BW9 TE 6 speed. I am doing this upgrade as well. Using $80 junk yard calipers painted G2 orange, centric drilled/slotted rotors, ceramic pads, stainless lines. Will take pictures when done.

Don't get the drilled/slotted rotors its a waste of money and just dont work well with this setup

Get what you want. I got junkyard rotors for 60$ and Dutralast pads from autozone & AutoMax's Rotors. Replaced the rotors 20k ago. Still on the pads and calipers 100k later.

Spent around 220.

I have a 2000 Maxima SE and just found this thread regarding the 6th gen Maxima brake upgrade for the 5th gen Maxima, I didn't see an answer in this thread to the following question.

The 6th gen Maxima years they were produced is from 2004 - 2008, does it matter which year 6th gen caliper that is purchased or trim level ie SE or SL?

I presume it doesn't matter, but I wanted to check with the experts on this forum before I purchase the 6th gen calipers.

Thanks,

Mike

This mod works on a gen 5?

I did this on a gen 5.5 and bought a refurb gen 6 caliper without care about trim, year etc.

It's a decent upgrade, floor the brakes going about 80 km/h and your car stops dead but then skids for a couple of meters lol (due to crappy tires probably).

Consider flushing the brake fluid too.

I did this on my 02 I35 (same as a 5.5 gen Maxima), and used 04 Maxima SE calipers sourced from tirerack.com for the front, and 02 Max SE rear calipers from partsgeek.com
There's a group deal offer for Brembo blank rotors here on the .org
04 front rotors and 02 rear rotors.

The first post states that 5th gen SE wheels won't clear the brakes.
I'm using aftermarket wheels ('12 R Spec 19's), which cleared the brakes with room to spare

Quote from the OP initial post

"These are DIRECT BOLT ON for ALL 5th gens (5.0 and 5.5 alike) but you can also opt to get Matt Blehm's re-location bracket on the 5.0 gen (but not the 5.5 gen) and use your stock calipers."

Thanks for your replies, but my question is, are all the calipers the same from the 6th gen maxima regardless of the trim level ie SE or SL?

Thanks,

Mike
