Will an AE key work for an 02?

I just bought the 20th AE key (http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=H0564-2Y900) and was wondering if it would be compatible with my 02 max . BTW, does anyone know the price of cutting & programming the key ? Thanks in advance for your in put.

The key will work but you will have to get it programmed in order to start the car with it. The dealer will charge you one price no matter how many keys are programmed and you must have all keys programmed at once. I think it is about $40 to have it done but I don't remember for sure.

I called some of my local stealerships today; none of them seemed to know for sure if the key would be compatible. I got both 'yes' and 'no' replies from the stearlerships. From what they said, it seems cutting the key is not a problem, but the programming is another story.

Has anyone tried the Anniversary Key (00-01) with a 02-03 max?

Why would you buy that key, not having an AE?

It will definitely work because I have one for my 2002 Maxima. When I bought the car I asked the dealer to throw in an extra key and that's what they gave me. But it works, I use it everyday.

I'm going to install a Viper 791XV alarm/auto starter that requires a key for the immobilizer bypass. Since I will be needing an extra key I just got the AE, I think it looks nice. Plus, I got it for less than $30 shipped brand new

i thought the AE key had the keyfob buttons right on the key, so you did not need the extra keyfob peice.

Keys can be programmed on their own, it is the remotes that have to be programmed together.

The only real difference is the AE key is metal around the hole, as the standard key is plastic and can break-as some of you may have already found out.

NOTE: Key needs to be programmed and cut by your local Nissan dealership to be operational. Contact your dealer for information.

Stealership said they would cut it for free, it is 1 hr labor for programming. I have a friend at a stealership who can do it for me. I will post the results in the next few weeks.

sorry to T-jack... I was wondering if it's possible for the dealer to program the key without cutting it? I want to reuse the extra key from my crashed Max to use for the remote start bypass.

Well on the Plus side.. the key fits into the ignition perfectly.. Down side is it obviously doesn't turn. So doesn that matter?

Yes the key must turn.
Why the AE key I can tell you one reason, if your ruugh on your keys (dropping them and what not) the hole for your key ring is metal. therfor will not likley break the way your standered key may, being how its plastic.

well that sucks the biggest ballz. Oh well. Anyone know where I too can get an AE key cheaper than Courtesy's $70+ . The key my car came with is bulky as all hell. Looks like Ebay's finest.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with Nissan tech. Says that YES I can reuse the key from my old max for the autostart feature. The key can be programmed withough being cut. (should have aksed them 1st huh??)

Plus 1 on the broken plastic keys. I've had a couple car keys fall off the key ring due to broken plastic holes.

That is total BS I've worked for nissan for since 03 and have never herd of a way to program a key w/o turning it. It MUST turn for the NATS to know there is a key in the ignition to be programed.

Not doubting you. Is it possible they have a key code duplication device like
This?

program key

The key can be cut by anyone, Meijer etc

The programming costs
There is a way to do it yourself

provided you have a working key & remote

I am also trying to program a key but have no remote. So I am looking for more info. Below is instructions found @ ProgramYourKeys.com

The Central Door locking is controlled by the Multi-Remote Control system which controls the door locking, door super locking and hazard reminder. When the doors are locked and unlocked the unit flashes the hazard lights once for lock and twice for unlock.
A maximum of four remote controls are allowed to be programmed.
Ensure all the doors have been unlocked, either by using a good transponder key or remote control plip key.
1. Turn the ignition switch from Position 0 to ON 6 times within 10 seconds.
2. Then turn ignition switch to OFF position. Leave key in ignition switch.
3. After 2 seconds, the system will enter programming mode and will flash the warning lights twice.
4. Press and HOLD the unlock button on the Plip.
5. While pressing the unlock button, press the lock button 3 times.
6. Release the unlock button.
7. The warning lights will flash once to indicate successful programming.
8. Repeat procedure 4 to 7 for up to 4 plip key’s.
9. When completed turn ignition ON, and the warning lights will flash 2 times.
10. Remove key, and check all plip key’s for operation.
NOTE : The programming mode will stop when either the ignition is switch ON, 4 plip keys have been programmed or no input signal either from the switch or plip keys has been received for 120 seconds.

Update: Key was cut and programmed. Had to reprogram all keys. I wouldn't try programming the keys yourself, the Nissan Tech used the Consult II. Took about 30 mins for the cut and programming.

I didn't realize how aesthetically appealing the AE key was until I showed my cousin my keys on which he noted "That's a nice key!"

I think it's a unique key but I wouldn't get one unless my car was at least an 01. At least then the car falls into the same Anniversary year. Otherwise you're like those guys who badge their BMW 318s with an M3 emblem. I think the Altima SE-R key mentioned above would be a more suitable choice for a non-2001 Max.
