it would hit that 4k rpm range...and it wouldnt shift at all,,,,,i would have to let go of the gas, and hit it again and it would shift
and this was from 1st to 2nd gear only.....
after a new MAF, the problem has been fixed man....it shifts so smooth rite now.....cant feel it....
but i might be wrong, u might not have the same problem...

I have the same problem. I can't figure out what is causing the problem though. I was pulling out onto a highway today and stepped on the gas hard, the car hesitated for a second and then kicked in. Hope you find the problem

dafertilizer.......that procedure stated in your link seems very involved...i wonder how much that would cost if i went to the dealer?...hmmmm
My hesitation problems were a combination of my TCM and Blown coils...
I had the TCM fixed and it still had a hesitation when I went to accelerate and it was the coils. Replaced the coils and it was good as new.

Not to start a pissing match again but:
I was told by my dealer and from Nissan of North America they just had to reprogram the TCM and they charged my Extended Warranty $90...
That was done 60,000 miles ago and it has been fine since.

according to the service manual, it cant be reprogramed

Yes we have, but according to Nissan and the Lit for the Consult II it can be done...
Also the fact that they did it to my car in 15 min convinces me also.
If anyone needs the solenoid assy that is listed in the above bulletin, I have one for sale. It was installed on a car for all of an hour, and did not fix this specific car's problem. If anyone wants it, I am selling it for 75$ shipped in original box. New it lists at 385$.

I am pretty convinced that my tranny is shot, and dont think replacing this solenoid will fix it (but what do I know)
Soonerfan - so you paid $600 for the upgraded TCM? and was that installed?
I just really don't want to have to put out $600 for a new TCM or the valve solenoid, and have to end up replacing the tranny anyway

Is the TCM different from the soleniods?

the problem is caused when the TCM has problems proccesing the inputs. it takes it a few seconds longer to figure out that the tranny needs to shift.

the list price on the upgraded TCM (31036-4Y960) is actually over $700. i got it from daveb for around $600 and installed it myself.

1) Is the TCM part of the ECM itself or it is some standalone module talking to the ECM?
2) Since my car was manufactured in 04/99, with the TSB clearly applicable to my car, how much damage has been done with slower shifting over the last 6 years?
3) Is it worth replacing when I have become so used to the slow shifts and 1->2 gear bang.

Feel sad to hear that my tranny would one day die inspite of feeding a rich cocktail of boutique fluids and above all being nice to it over the last 6 years, no hard shifting at all!!!
TSB is essentially for something that is manufacturer fault but then "not replicable" consistently. But if it is documented in the TSB that all vehicles before Sep,2000 then is should have been a recall, WTF should I have to have my tranny die due to a faulty part.

Like others have said, it could be your MAF sensor. Very common to go out around your mileage. I thought my tranny was toast until I read the above thread. I replaced the MAF and the tranny shifts perfectly now.

Is the upgraded TCM in all of the 2001's? if so would it be possible to get one from a local junkyard and swap it in? I know the place by me has an 01 right now...

Can you detail the location of the TCM and any tips on replacing the part, since you have replaced it on your vehicle? I will in the mean time look around for a bargain deal with the local junkyard for a 2K1 TCM

unplug the battery (if not, you will blow the new one)
remove old one
replace new one
connect battery

I checked a few of the junkyards and they have 31036-4Y901, which I assume is the first cut of the 2K1 TCM.
The TCM you got from DaveB seems to have 4Y960 (I assume there were 60 revisions till date to the 2K1 model since then), I am not sure if I should spend the $600 and get the most uptodate 4Y960 and above or the bare minimum 4Y901.
