intake question

I recently swapped my stock airbox on my 01 max for a cone filter by removing the air box and attaching the filter directly to the MAF by an adaptor flange. I have two questions:

1) What is the purpose of the midpipe on an intake as used in the Berk intake if I can run this setup like shown

2) And (this may relate to the first question) how can I relocate my air temp sensor (as circled in red) so I can remove the stock air scoop?

thanks for your help

1.) the midpipe gets rid of all the stuff behind the MAF which some say messes up the air flow
2.) you can just ziptie that sensor to one of the hoses in the area

Thats an IAT sensor right, so isnt it best to keep it as cool as possible so the ecu doesnt think its taking in hot air?
