For the 5.5 owners with stock intake

How come the intake housing (plastic) is so hot when you touch it after driving it for a little while? Doesn't that effect the temperature of the air coming in? The radiator hose right under the beginning of the intake is too hot to touch and I'm guessing it's heating it up? Any way you can wrap the least amount of the intake with some kind of insulation to keep the heat away? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think the rad hose is the only thing heating it up.

I'm sure there are other factors such as underhood temperatures in general.

Oh yeah def but I was pointing out like it's RIGHT under it. They should've paid more attention to the design. Is there anything we can do to keep the heat away from the intake?

There are many items of interest that could have been designed better, I think the one you mentioned is nearly at the bottom of the barrel, meaning very insignificant...They did the best with the room they had given the situation (FWD config)
IMO...

i would think the air would be moving at such a velocity that its really unaffected once the car is moving of course.

i bet that intake stays relatively cool until you park it. given the design, you actually get a mild ram air effect. if you really want to experiment with this, go ahead and take it apart, and get some thermal wrap. it'll look VERY utilitarian, but hey, you can get colored wrap or a CAI if you want underhood style

Just found out about the OSCAI lol. Anyone have a valid link to the How-To because the links on the sticky are not working.
