Changed Oxygen Sensor...SES still on
Changed Oxygen Sensor...SES still on
Hi,
I had a SES light for codes P0138 and P0139. I changed the o2 sensor (rear bank 1) that these codes pointed to. It's the white one. I decided not reset the ECU and the SES light is still on. Now I just noticed that in the TSB it says that both of the rear sensors should be replaced in a 2001. So my question is:
Has anyone just replaced the white one and had luck with the light or am I going to have to buy the other 02 sensor (red) to solve the problem.
Thanks

when you replace one or two o2 sensor's you have to replace all four in order to get that ses light completely shut. even if you do reset the ECU after replacing 2 or 3 sensors the SES light may become active in future...so as i said have all the sensors replaced and problem fixed...i did the same a year ago and i paid around $95.00 for each sensor it was the cheapest deal by that time.
you may still find them cheaper on this site>>>>>>http://www.autopartswarehouse.com

I have also done one 02 sensor at a time and was fine. First the front sensor went. Then the rear one went. Both times I reset the ECU after the senor was replaced and the codes did not come back.
If you replaced the sensor just reset the ECU and call it a day.

You should replace both rear bank sensors...its the front bank where only one may need replacing.
OC...I don't know where you get your info for having to change all four when you get an SES for one or two sensors????

u just have to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to clear codes.
^ooops i had 4 of them replaced in order to get that SES light shut. i didnt know that you can replace the defective one only...but to get the better gas mileage and for better performance you have to have 4 new sensors during interval. cuz if 1 goes bad then definitely other will burn out in future aswell.

If you did not reset the ECU after completing the changeout, you will have to give it some time before the code will clear itself. Otherwise, as others have suggested, I recommend you clear the code manually and see if it comes back.
OC, please quit posting BAD advice.
I'm happy to report that the SES light went off by itself. It took 3 days or roughly 8 drives. So answering my own question, you can replace just one of the oxygen sensors and solve the problem.
