timing cant be advanced?

i went to my friend at the infinity dealer the other day (he has an obd-ii scanner) and when he hooked it up to the car the ignition timing could not be moved up, and if u moved it down (testing) the setting couldn't be applied. he told me that he has never seen a car that the ignition timing couldn't be changed before and I was wondering if i just need to see someone else and yes it is still possible or is something wrong with my ecu and im screwed out of this mod?

They are supposed to advance the timing with a consult II not an ODBII scanner. I mean an ODB II Scanner can only read code and erase it.

He should have been using a Consult II, not an OBD scanner, as already posted.

He should probably also look for another job...

I and everyone else in the org. that has their timing advanced had it done at a NISSAN STEALERSHIP with the CONSULT II programmer. I swear it really can be done.

It can be done at an Infiniti dealership too.

Well I would hope so, since NISSAN and INFINITY are one in the same.

No they're not. Nissan makes cars, Infinity makes stereo/audio components.

I was correcting your statement that everyone on the .Org had their timing advanced at a "Nissan Stealership"; there are several who have had it done at Infiniti dealerships too.

ok wait.. so i can go to the dealership and have it done? how much does it cost, and how much more power will i make? is it a mod that i can def feel? how much does the stealership charge for this?
Puppetmaster, i finally started to post replies over here instead of the other nissanclub.com thanks for your help so far. But like i asked, does it make a difference? and is it worth it?

Do you also have the ability to tune a SAFC? please let me know.. cuz i would like to have this done.

another thing too.. whats the max timing i can advance too.. 17 Degrees right?

Compared to the Techno Square.. would it be cheaper and more power to get my ecu reflashed from techno? or would just advancing to 17 degrees and getting a afc and tuned better?

one more thing.. putting on the headers and y-pipe, and leave the stock exhaust, is that silly to do since its the stock exhaust? or do i need to go ahead just replace the exhaust too?

Thanks guys for your help.

It costs anywhere from 20-100 bucks depending on the dealership. Power gains on a 02-03 are debatable, but at minimum it increases throttle response. Try Passport Nissan in Alexandria, they might do it. Frederick Nissan does it for sure, even though I know that's a hike.

I could tune a SAFC-II/VAFC-II, but you'd need to be on a dyno for that. The best place I know of is SRT up by UMCP. Website: www.swiftracing.com. They will tune for you too, I think its 150/hr for dyno + tune or 100/hr for dyno time and self tune.

Maybe its time for me to organize another dyno day....

Time to start doing some homework of your own:

Depends... do some research and you will see why....

Stock cat-back or muffler is fine.

4AT's and 6MT's alike have dynoed in the 230's with headers as the ONLY exhaust mod.

That means sotck cat, catback and muffler.

Hey guys.. thanks alot for your input.. I actually researched on the 17 degrees thing and thats the max for my max.. ha ha.. eh.. anyways.. about the techno square vs super afc and advanced timing, what i've come up with was that techno square was worth it cuz they can do some other stuff.. but doing the ther safc and advanced timing mod was better because of every car is different. but i didnt really see, unless i just didnt look hard enough again, that which was better. cuz I know i have to do the dyno session as well and that would add up just as much as the reflash.

So the bottom line is that if i can benefit more from the reflash, do they keep the 17 degree timing advance?? or do they do there own advance? thanks..

Puppet master, thanks for your help along with everyone as well!

See thats awesome but its gonna be more than what i wanted to spend for bang for buck. its still around 500 bucks right? and then i have to have someone tune it. so i just thought i could get the reflash and be done with it. SSR is making their turbo kit which is done for the maxima's so but thats gonna be down the road and i just wanted something for now.
