Who installed thier own Remote start alarm?
As the Title asks. I was just curious to know how many 5th gen owners tackled thier own alarm installation, type of alarm, how long it took, and what tools, extra parts did they deem necessary. (Besides the transponder bypass, extra key and of course, the alarm itself).
I myself have a Black Widow Remote start security system BWZ1, and am thinking about taking this job on myself. Any input or help would be great.
So far I've already got the extra key (Long story and a pain in the as$ to obtain) and transponder as stated.I also have the wiring diagram for my 2000 SE. Wish me luck.

i did....it took a full weekend.... Viper 791xv...i used a lot of tools like once....drill, wire taps (mainly t taps) the how i followed says i should use this, but the install manual suggested says the ignition wires are too large for the wire taps and you should strip the wire and tap manually...so i did it that way, roll of eletrical tape, screw drivers (duh), ummmm velcro to hold the brain in the dash, band aids....lol and a whoooole lot of patience.....I later installed window mods for the auto roll up and down feature...that took a few hours a day for install and trouble shooting. hope any of that helps. gooood luck!
I installed mine in about 4-5 hours.
But it was very messy, I pulled it all back out a couple weeks later and did it again very cleanly in about 4 hours.
Then the unit was defective (
) so I pulled it out again and just had Don do a new install on a new unit.
edit: also, you may get better install tips in the audio section.

I installed mine in the middle of winter so it was like 20 below zero, I did a complete crap job, but came back last week when it was warmer, and moved both the viper 771xv and the 556u to under the cd player, and right on top of the TCM I believe. Then shoved wires outta sight, since it is warm, I would recommend taking your time, plan out where you are gonna put your stuff, and don't get wire ADD like I did (thats where you see all these wires and bounce around from harness to harness). Just do one harness at a time, and trim all the wires to the right length, don't leave too much extra, and pull out the wires you don't use from their respective plugs. Also I used this site http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/viper791xv/ which helped me out bunches...

You should be alright.
One word of advice regarding that site though.
Don't tap the ignition wires above the steering wheel. Get them under the dash (under the steering wheel). You will see a thick wire loom looping up under the steering wheel. Cut away the loom and tap there.

all at the same time...although the freakin window lag makes them kinda slow rolling up, esp when it is all four windows....less engergy i guess....
just use the 530t window mods...you'll need 2 (1 for each pair)
