Which Y-pipe for an 02 Maxima?

I wanna leave everything stock in the car, but just put a Y-pipe. I want to get that deep throaty tone and plus a little bit of power as well.

Do you guys think its a good idea? I dont want to wake up the whole neighborhood when I start the car

its pointless with a 3.5 engine since you wont be getting rid of precats (like the 3.0)

so basically the only exahust modifcation that I will actually benfit some power is the headers for the 3.5?

If I put a y-pipe on a 2k2 will I at least get a nice sound?

correct...only headers.
if you just want the sound get a catback or just a muffler. a lot easier to install then a y-pipe

Depends on what you consider "nice sound". A y-pipe changes the tone very slightly and maybe increases the volume by like 10-20%, if even that (assuming you retain a stock type rear section). If you have a straight through muffler, then it'll probably increase the volume more. You'll typically see gains of about 8 whp over stock, give or take a couple hp.

my y on my 02 gave about that much power, with a test pipe and/or b pipe the sound would prob be louder...

The reason I want to change the Y-pipe is because the heatshield on the stock one I have now is rattleing. When I stop at a redlight in gear or even in park when I start the car it makes this really annyoing noise.

The guy at the exahust shop told me he is affraid to cut it with the torch because he might make a hole in the y-pipe. So its either I get it replaced with something else or just wait until it falls off by itself and god knows how long that will take.

I would wish to go with a full catback and a Y-pipe but my parents drive the car once in a while and I dont want them to be driving a car like that with so much noise.

8whp is lame for a y-pipe, I wish I could put headers but its wayy to expensive since I am not gonna put it in by myself.

If I put a Y-pipe would I have to change anything with the ECU, because if I remember correctly some people lost power once they put a Y-pipe. Am I making any sense here?

Y-pipe's sound on 3.5L's because they are not equal length. Sounds like a tractor.

No modifiications to the ECU are needed.

Seriously, a y-pipe for a 3.5L is no ideal an a waste of $$$ IMO.

Get under there and pull it off yourself.... I have no heat shields on my car

alright, so the Y-pipe is out of the question.

The only thing now I guess is either headers or just a catback. What kinda muffler do you recommend?
something very deep and throaty like a V8

We have V6's so you'll never get a V8 sound.

I still have my stock muffler...no complaints.

Just rip the heatshields off and call it a day. The bolts break easily, I've done it.

As far as cat-backs go, I think there are none that will please you. Unless you can find a Frankencar somewhere, all the others will drone up to 2500 rpms.

they stopped making the Frankencar muffler? I remember when they came out you had to wait a long time for them.

I like the cattman products , they seem to know what they're doing in a lot of their products.

wouldnt that ruin the muffler after some time?

You're opening up the whole exahust and than at the end you leave the stock muffler? can the stock muffler take all that pressure?

Definately don't do the y-pipe. Later when u want more power you'll regret not just paying for the headers since it replaces the y-pipe too. Trust me I know how it feels.
