New fuel filter for 2003 ... does this even look right?

This is for 2003 Nissan Maxima.

I read the great write-up on how to replace the fule filter on a 2000-01 nissan maxima. I also read that the procedure on 2002-03 is VERY similar, if not the same.
So, i got my brand new fuel filter from Courtesy Nissan + O-ring and then i compared it to what is see in the write-up. It looks different!!! Very different.
1. My new filter does not have any clips on the side.
2. My new filter does NOT have any black plastic hoses attached to it.

Is this normal for the 2002-2003 Maxima or they sent me the wrong filter?

Please, see pictures below. This is my new filter out of the box. At the bottom i have also attached the pictures from 2000-01 Maxima found in the write-up post.

Here is the original picture of the write-up, posted by "Ammi". See the difference? IS this normal? My 2003 filter has NO plastic hoses attached to it.

Did i receive the wrong filter or this is how it should look for the 2002-2003 Maxima? Let me know please, before i attempt to open my whole fuel sending system.

Thanks!

The part number that you have and listed (16400-2Y505) is specifically for the 2002 Maxima only according to Courtesy Parts. Courtesy does list another part number (16400-00009) for the 2002 and 2003. Try and visit their site to check it out. Under their search in the upper right hand corner, type in the part number and see what information it gives you. It really seems wierd, seeing as that the 02 and the 03 are basically the same car. If I were you, I would call them back, it seems that you may have the wrong part.

Respectfully, "Bran Da Man"

Hmm. Thank you! Good information. Why would they sell two different fuel filters for 2 cars that should be virtually the same. Why would 2002 be different than 2000-2001 and 2003? This is really confusing. What's worse....now i wonder.....if it would make a difference what month/year was my car built....even though it's a "2003" model. Very confusing.

Has anyone replaced a fuel filter on a "2003" model? How did it look?

they gave you the correct filter...my 2002 filter looks just like that...and i did use spirillis' write up as reference...and he has a 2000, not 2002

the procedure is nearly the same...if not, easier...cuz theres no rubber thingy to mess with...everything just clips on in place...

and the reason 2000-2001 and 2002-2003 are different...i think its due to the return, and return-less fuel system changes they made....correct me if i am wrong...

so the final verdict? everything looks good so far...let me know if you have any more questions

So, the lack of black plastic hose is not a problem??
I do not have any hoses attached on my filter. Do i need to mess with any hoses?

Also, why do you think they have 2 different part numbers listed for the 2002-2003 models?

Thanks!

i didn't know they had two seperate part #s...i'm PRETTY sure the 03 setup should be the same as the 02....and if you were dealing with a nissan parts guy...and if you told him you had an 03...then he SHOULD give u the correct part #...

anyway, according to the pictures, you do have the correct part...mine looked exactly like that...if you're still paranoid, go give it a shot...it's not hard to remove the fuel pump assembly unit anyway...
