Bracket underneath the car broke

Gents:

I overheard some clanging noise from underneath the car, went down to check it out, and noticed that a bracket after catalyst converter holding the exhaust tube in place had rust and broke in two pieces. I guess the car would need a new piece and had it weild back. Anyone had the same problem before ? Any idea how much would it cost ? Or would the dealer tell me they had to replace the whole exhaust system and cost me a fortune ?

Appreciate any info.

Cheers,
Hank

Take it to an exhaust shop and tell them to weld on a new hanger. 20-30bucks Max.

Took it to Midas, they said that happens a lot bcuz that hanger is not stainless steel and rust off. Most of the exhaust on the Max is stainless steel, that is why they could not even wield another piece back on well, so they ened up putting a U-shaped bracket over it, and then attached it to the plastic part where the original hanger was. Will take some pictures and upload them soon.

Highly doubt any part of our exhaust is SS.

Well... if they are not SS, then I would say they look pretty shinny after 4 years of use and on salty roads in winter time. Costed me $34 bucks at Midas and they put on the U-shaped bracket, which the pic should shows quite clearly.

don't know how to upload pics here :-(

Yeah, my weld came loose near the B-pipe inner-most muffler a couple of weeks ago. I used a clamp to hold it more secure to keep it from banging on the cross bar. It worked, but I wanted something more secure. Took it to Midas, and slipped the guy a $20 bill and welded it back on. No more banging! After owning my 2k, it seems that alot of things go wrong with these exhaust system welding points. I never had any problems with my exhaust system in my 10 years of owning my '95. Now, with my 2k, I had already replaced a rear muffler because of a rusted out flange, and welded a hanger point on my B-pipe. Man, I can't imagine what will be next now that winter will soon be here in the next couple of months!
