how to tell if shocks are blown while taken off the car?

So I came across a set of already assembled suspension...KYB GR2 and Maxspeed springs...I would like to know if theres a certain procedure to test the remaining life on the shocks? i know springs should last forever...but the shocks do go out...how do i tell?

No, not really. If they are leaking then they are toast. But even if they don't leak they can still be bad. After a while the bore wears and fluid slips past the piston so they don't damp like they used to.

Um the only way i can think of is take off the top hats and then take off the springs and then do a compression test.

use your hands to push the rod down the barrel of the shock and if it goes down smoothly then you're cool. if it doesnt move or if it goes down too fast then you've got a fcked up shock.

right before I installed my tokiiko Illuminas Just for the h3ll of it I tried to compress the shock with my hands and it slowly compressed only with a good steady amount of pressure. Whereas Ive been told blown shocks are much easier to compress/pull out by hand . and of course check for any fluid leaking and make sure there is a clean sweep around the shaft after the shock expands back open.

just stroke it...if it goes in faster/slower than pulling out, your strut is no good. dampening should be even inward and outward. no homo

i just checked the rears...and they both have the same amount of pressure to push the stick in (moderate strength i guess?)...and when they rise back up, it comes up pretty smoothly...so the rears are good to go!
