XM install recommendations

I just bought an XM Roadie 2. Can you post pictures of where and how you installed yours? Or, point me to a link for past threads. Thanks

I don't have a Roadie but I do have an Airware. Just a possible tip for the antenna... I ran the antenna cable down the side of the interior, up the backseat and mounted it on one of the child seat anchors.

Thanks. I was thinking of just mounting the antenna in the right corner of the windshield. Do you have a picture of the Airwave mounted?

I don't have XM, but I do have Sirius. My Siruis fit perfectly in the "ashtray" in front of the shifter. I then ran the antenna wire under everything and onto the right front corner of the trunk. Works great, except for some scratchiness from the FM modulator...

I've got my unit resting in the ashtray too. It's a good spot but there is nothing to secure it to. i've also considered mounting it on the flat spot over the top vents. I really don't want it that conspicuous, but i can't see anywhere else it will fit without blocking something important. That's why I've asked for suggestions.

I don't know what the Roadie looks like but I have the Sirius Starmate replay and it fits perfectly in the ashtray. The astray holds it in tight and secure as you can see it in the picture below.

If you don't use your sunglass holder you can put it in there and run your wire through your headliner. That's what I did with my sirus

I've just got my Sirius on the suction cup mount on my windshield. I can read it there while changing channels and still keep an eye on the road. I tried it lower by the ash tray or above by the sunglasses holder but thats not in my life of sight while driving and I can't keep my eyes on the road.

Roady 2 -

The "swivel" stick on adapter sits in the ashtray pretty nicely. All wires feed back behind the ashtray.

antenna is on the dash - center of windshield.

Power tapped from Cig Lighter, tape adapter wire comes out right below radio.

Dubious - nice setup - where did you get the swivel mount? I got my Roadie 2 used so I didn't get any accessories. I plan on running my wires through the ashtray also.

With that work with a Roadie 2? I think the kit will only work with a SkyFi2.

Here is the swivel bracket that's included with the Roady 2 retail package.

Note that this does attach to the "C-Bracket" that snaps onto the back of the roady.

The FM Modulator should work with anything that has the 1/8" stereo plug (ipod/xm/whatever). I've considered one - the Tape can be a little flaky sometimes, but sounds good. Note that the wireless FM transmitter sound quality is not worth a cr@p, but I've heard good things about wired.

I have not looked at the back of our stock radio, but would any FM Modulator kit work with our antenna jack? I know the gen 3's antenna connection was a Nissan proprietary 2 prong jack.

This is what i found so far.

Hdn't thought about the diversity antenna plugs - I had only seen the adapter to go from diversity to motorola - which would be used to feed the modulator. You would then need a reverse adapter to go back into the nissan sterso.

Found a kit here that includes both adapters.

anyone know if you could stack multiples of these to send signals (on different frequencies of course) from multiple fm modulated devices to the stock radio - say XM on 88.6 and ipod on 90.1 without too much interference?

or is an fm modulator made with multiple inputs that transmits on more than one frequency?

Edit: moving modulator discussion to audio forum where it's more appropriate
