Has Anybody Fixed There Calipers?

Whats up yall?

Im having a problem here. The problem is......................my calipers seized on me. I made a post about it 2 weeks ago. Took it to the local shop, they want to charge me $350 +. Is that a normal price? So my questions is, has anybody changed their calipers before? i was thinking about doing, but not really sure. I would have to follow step by step instructions. Is it easy? hard? Guy at local shop stated i would need to bleed my brakes, get brake hose, calipers of course, and brake pas......anything else? Your responses are appreciated. Thanks

take off wheel, drain and tap off brake fluid, take off caliper, take caliper apart, push piston in and out a few times, see if it unseizes. lube the whole thing and bolt back on.

1 hour job at most if you've done it before...

or you could buy a refurbished caliper from autozone or advanced auto for less than $100.

I took mine a part, sandblasted them, changed the seal and shim, put some grease to lubricate where the pads slide and put everything back. I cost me 40$ to get each of the caliper sandblasted few $$ fot the shim & grease and now the brake are like brand new.

Go for rebuild calipers They less than $100/piece. Sanding isn't permanent solution since piston's surface galvanized to prevent corrosion. However if you short on $$$$ use write-up super6 linked to since noone knows how fast corrosion will build up again.

I have rebuilt calipers and they work great as well. A very easy install with little experience necessary. Get new pads while you are at it Hawk HPS all the way.

It might be worth considering a 6th gen. brake upgrade if you're needing rotors soon too. I don't think 6th rotors and calipers cost that much more than the 5th gen. parts.

I've read the 6th gen. brakes have a lot more bite but you'll lose a little pick-up as the rotors are larger and weigh more.

So 6th gen. calipers and lightweight rotors it is - the original $350 probably just passed $500 ... Good Luck

is the gen 6 rear calipers still *start* pistons? if it's regular pistons.. i'd jump on that cuz i'm seriously sick of doing the rear brakes..

Not a clue. I'm sure there is more information on the conversion if you look into it. I've only read of the upgrade in passing and have not done it myself but would seriously consider it if I was changing out the calipers.
