Intake setup question

I currently have this setup on my 01 gle auto. I removed the stock airbox and attached a cone filter directly to the MAF. Is this an okay setup to run on? and if not, could it relate to the problems I have been having with hesitation around 3000 RPMS? The problem was eventually reduced by replacing the stock airbox. Any ideas?

Thanks!

So are you experiencing hesitation at around 3000 rpm with the stock air box or with the pop charger?

I've been thinking of switching to a similar set up instead of stock, like the JWT Pop Charger. The stock snorkel is was missing from the car when I bought it, so I thought I might as well go with an aftermarket set up. Sure there are small gains from what I’ve read, but I’m not sure if that is hype. I’d like to hear some opinions.

Yeah my setup looks exactly the same, just differient color filter. Anyways, to help reduce the hesetation, try and make sure that the whole filter/MAF assembly is kept level and secured tight from moving around and banging too much, or not at all if possible. To those with aftermarket branded (injen, JWT, place racing) C/WAI dou you experience any hasitation? or is this just isolated to the parts store/ebay brand filter and adapter setup?

The air temp sensor is located where it always was, in the stock scoop.

If the hesitation is caused by the MAF moving around, make a bracket to secure it to the strut, like the one that comes with the Berk/Frankencar kits.

where did you put the sensor that mounts on that bolt hole in the plastic on the scoop the sensor say boost sensor on it. i ordered an air filter like this on ebay but it got lost by our grand old usps so if i ever get it and want to put it in and take that scoop off i know where i can mount it and what it does

HAHAHA i did this mod almost 1 year ago. it was

I thought it was cool because it made MORE sound than the GAB, but the result was less torque and no HP gain.

If you're gonna do this, you might as well finish it up and get a midpipe.

BTW, you probably blew your MAF if you're having hesitation.

I recently threw an intake like this on my max. I was psyched and it definitely has a more aggressive sound to it. I haven't dyno'd it since.. but using this instead of that huge ugly airbox.. how can it be worse?

butt dyno are almost always inaccurate and irrelevant. with that said, i noticed a lose of low end power with a midpipe and was cured by reinstalling the stock resonator between the tb and maf.

you really think I would be that dumb?

Anyway, I think i'm going to try to secure the intake better, it does move around quite a bit. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'm going back to stock and maybe trying out the GAB. Thanks for all your help.
