Airbag Reset on '01

ok, before you flame me, this link:

"SRS Airbag Light Reset Trick For 2000-2003 (studman)"

in the how-to's is broken, much like alot of the rest of them.....

aaand I came up empty handed after a good long google search....

anyhow, can someone post the reset procedure for an '01? I see one for the 02-03, but not my year. I accidenally unplugged the yellow plug while replacing my in-cabin air filter (yeah yeah) so i need to reset it.

Thanks!

J

one more thing...

found this one: but it didn't work, there's no way I could have actually hurt the airbag system is there?

1) turned key on and waited until the airbag light went off (7 secs)
2) Immediately turned key to off
3) Waited 5 seconds
4) Repeated steps 1 through 3 an additional two times
5) Turned key to On and airbag light was flashing much slower.
6) Turned key to off then started car. Light does not flash any longer.

update

OK, so I'm pretty sure that is the proper procedure to reset the light... but I can't get it to work.

I do believe the key was on when I unplugged the yellow plug, so I'm not sure what the affects of that are, but I can't get the reset procedure to work.

I also checked the airbag fuse and its fine, so thats bout all I've got up my sleeve.

....to the dealer I go....unless someone else can save me....

success!

Ok, so I found I wasn't being accurate enough with my time calculations.

Use a stopwatch, and do exactly as the procedure above states. Be as accurate as you can. In fact.... here's the exact procudure from the factory service manual if someone would be so kind as to replace the stickie in the how-to.

J

Diagnosis mode activates only when a malfunction is detected, by turning ignition switch as follows:
1) Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2) After “AIR BAG” warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch “OFF” within 1 second.
3) Wait more than 3 seconds.
4) Repeat steps 1 to 3 twice (Perform 3 times in total).
5) Turn ignition switch “ON”.
SRS will not enter Diagnosis mode, if no malfunction is detected.

USE A STOPWATCH AND BE AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE! REPEAT MULTIPLE TIMES UNTILL YOU ARE SURE THERE IS A MALFUNCTION.
