I was thinking about covering my pillars with carbon fiber-looking stuff. Take a look at this picture and tell me if it looks good or not.

I think the carbon fiber look would replace the solid black pillars with a two tone black/silver appearance, which may make the pillars blend more nicely with the Sterling Mist finish of the car. I do not have tinted windows. Also, I was thinking of covering that little part on the back windows between the "main" back window and the small piece of glass (whatever it is called).

I saw the stuff in local NOPI store this weekend and almost sprung for it. Looks easy to install.

IF you like carbon fiber it would look bad ***, I am not much one for carbon fiber look(but i am still gonna get the SE taillights from a junkyard one day). I am crazy for the chrome look. I am going to find out if i can get like the pillar pieces in chrome. It would match the doorhandles, the trim, and my tints. Can you find out if they sell like the chrome pieces for me?

What is it? It is a film which you can apply to just about anything. It is kinda like window tint, but with a carbon fiber look and not clear. You can do exterior pieces or interior pieces, etc.

Actually...

IMHO, that film they sell in the autoparts store looks a little cheezy. I have looked at it closely on the roll and it does not impress me, but then again I am totally against synthetic carbon fiber for ANY use! I am looking into having a guy from a dash kit company manufacture some custom REAL carbon fiber pieces coated with epoxy for me for the pillars on my 2K. I have to send back some measurements for a price quote and then submit a template to see if this job will be priced within my range. Most places I have contacted already usually turn down a custom job like this, and it is very rare to find someone who is willing. The difference between the real Carbon Fiber and this decal is like night and day, but the decal is the cheaper of the alternatives to be sure. IF I get this done AND it looks good, I will tell the person to expect additional inquiries about this item. I did want to have a unique mod all to myself, but hey, it's for the good of the group so I'll share the info when the time comes.

imo.. take a peice of cardboard paper, draw a lil outline of the pillars, so now u got a template, mail it into one of thems carbon fiber dash kit companies and ask them if they'll be willing to make it for u, it'll look way better tahnt the film stuff, oh yeah and the film stuff starts peeling..

Thanks for the feedback. I'll hold off on the film. I was a bit on the fence about it: does it look unique vs does it look unique but cheesy.

You asked about chroming. Is the part metal? If so, you *might* be able to send the part to one of those chrome plating places. Check the back of those hot rod magazines which do show car stuff. The metal may be too soft, though, since they may dunk it in some strong chemical stuff (saw it on TV).

I have clear rear "markers", not tail lights. You can get them at AutoDynamic.com (http://www.autodynamic.com). They are $40. Don't forget the red bulbs, too.

i dont' think my opinion is very valid.. i'ma carbonfiber maniac.. it'll look real nice. my friend has the i think it's called aero gear or something on his gs300, carbon fiber pillars, and really thin wind deflectors, it's the best wind deflectors i've ever seen.. but the carbon fiber makes it all look wonderful
