2000 Max "Service Engine" Question

Hey, what up all
I have a 2000 maxima and recently the service engine light came on, code p1320. I have done some reading mostly on the .org re this "ignition system" problem and it has all been very helpful.
Most often the problem is directly related to faulty or worn-out coils. However, I was wondering if anybody knows whether or not this problem ever been related too - or malfunction code caused by - the need for [new] sparkplugs?
Thanks for your time
Richard

spark plugs = secondary ignition system...
p1320 = Primary ignition system

Primary ignition system is everything from the coil back...Everything after the coils is your secondary system. COP (coil over plug) design means plugs and technically the bottom 1/2 of your coil (after the windings) are the only things there.

If your plugs where bad causing a misfire you would more than likely have a p0300 code (p0301, p0302, etc) and no p1320 code...

In either condition if there was a misfire you would probably have a p0300 code.

same problem

I'm having a problem right now where my engine cranks, but wont start. I drew a P0505 and a P1320 from my ODBII computer. I within the last 2 months installed brand new coils so I dont think its those. I just ordered a new Idle Air Control Valve (IACV), new spark plugs, a new cam & crank sensor. I tried to cover all the bases that would keep my car from starting, try to install these parts myself before I break down and have to send it to a shop.
Besides the check engine light, are you having any syptoms?

Sounds like you're just throwing parts at it. This is one of those times that it might be better to pay a professional to properly diagnose it.

Crank won't start

I had the same issue awhile ago. Crank and won't start, unless you step on gas, and then it will stall if you don't give gas. I cleared the code, and luckily everything was normal. More like a idle air flow thing.

ok, just a guess from me.. check your battery to see if it has enough CCAs - cold cranking amps that is
you'd need a battery tester for that
or just test the overall amperage with a tester, but CCAs would be better since it, of course, is for cold startups

I had a similar problem last winter with my 01. it eventually got worse to the point that the engine wouldn't run unless I constantly gave it gas. Did a search on this forum and found out it was mostlikly a bad MAF sensor which seems to be a very common problem. The new one cost me about $100 and took me 20 minutes to install. Problem solved.

My dads 2000 had the same problem. I was lead to believe it was pretty common as well. He ended up just having all 6 coilpacks replaced and kept the old ones. If need be if the problem ever arrises, we have the existing coilpacks to test with, as I am sure at least some of them are OK.. Also knew another person with a 2000, had the same issues. Seems like it's Ignition/MAF's with these cars more than anything.

check your engine mounts. if thers excessive movement of your engine in the engine bay while you step on the gas pedal, most likely your engine mounts.

I have a 2k auto. Recently, I pulled a 0301 and a 1320. I just replaced the spark plugs and the shaking got worst immediately after i replaced them. But after droving for 10 miles, the problem disappeared and I've haven't had a problem since and had my CEL reset.
