CV boot torn and spewing grease all over

My right side CV boot is torn and is spewing grease all over. What is surprising is I did my oil change a few weeks back and it was all fine, all of a sudden it is torn (FYI, whenever I get down under the car, the CV boot is the first thing I check before gettting to the real work). Could I have hit something on the highway resulting in it torn?

Now coming to replacing it, what would make more sense

1) Replacing the boot only.
2) Replacing both the axles becoz it is just a matter of time the left will start to leak.

Someone had a thread where it was strongly suggested to replace the axles itself instead of replacing the CV boot (it is cheaper on the whole when the axle and installation is put together vs just replacing the boot).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

raxles, FTW.

Once the boot is ripped, debris has already started getting in there. You could replace the boot, but it would cost almost as much as replacing the whole axle...
