I was out cruising this evening and I saw this car coming up fast from behind that had some really bright headlights so I decide to slow down and see what it was. Well turns out that it was a modified Civic SI with rims, lights, body kit, lowered, exhaust, intake you know the whole nine yards. The guy looks over and sees me looking at him and downshifts (we are doing about 50 mph) so I decide to get on it and quickly start pulling on him, after I see him in my rear view mirror I shut it down around 80 mph. Well as I was racing this guy it turns out that this 98' Mitsh. 3000 GT 5-speed was watching the whole thing from behind and is speeding to catch up to me and manages to move in front of the Civic so that he ends up side by side with me at the red light. I look over and this guys flashes me this grin so I start to torque brake the car up to 2500 rpm as the light for the cross traffic is turning yellow. The light turns green and I hammer it, I get a great start and jump the 3000 GT by a 1/2 a car length off the line and as my rpms hit 4000 I just flat out start pulling away from this 3000 GT like he was standing still. When I shut it down around 70 mph I had about 2 to car lengths on the guy. We come up to the next red light and he doesn't even look over. The light turns green and I decide let him get a little jump just for kicks to see how quickly I can catch him. I floored it and quickly caught him from behind and began passing the guy around 40 mph and once again embarrassed him but this time from behind. I flashed the guy with my hazards and he proceeds to pull a huey at which point I pull up along side him and roll down my window. He rolls down his window and says, "Damn that thing is fast!" I then said, "Well don't feel too bad about your car cause I have a SCer under the hood." He says, "Mind if I take a look?" So we pull over and I pop the hood. He said that he was really upset and couldn't figure out why a maxima was embarrassing him so badly, given that he was in a 3000 GT 5-speed. I told him that the stock 5-speed maxima would really give him a good run and one with any type of mods should be able to walk him pretty easily. This guy just had no idea how quick maximas were. He said that his car runs 15.1 in the 1/4 mile. Sorry for the long story but thought it was humorous.

hahaha...

Nice kill!!!

But all that guy runs is a 15.1?? 3000GT's are hella heavy (>3500 lb) Did he have the TT model or just the NA V6 one? If he has the TT he should be running faster than that, but if he's got the NA then that might be all the car runs as-is.

I ran a 98 3000 GT 5spd at the track the first time I took my Maxima out and before I learned how to launch. It was a dead heat with me winning by a smidgeon because I got a little better launch. I was stock, so was he and neither of us could pull the other.

With mods, it is a different story. I raced another on the street once I got the SI and Y pipe. Had a great launch and just plain walked away from him. Those things are heavy and have about 220 hp IIRC.

Hi,
Nice race.
How did you get a sc on a auto 2k?
Stillen said they wouldnt sell me one.
I thought there was some clearance issue, But you seem to have worked it out.
Is the vb mod, trans cooler all that is needed?
I want a sc max real bad.....

He was the reason why Stillen won't sell the SC to autos. DMan found out that there were clearance issues for the auto tranny that Stillen didn't account for. Doh!

His was a NA model V6 with no mods and running 220 hp. His car did sound nice thought and his headlights were cool looking.

hey Dman why did you put the "supercharged" logo on the back of your car. your car is a sleeper so if you take it off people won't know.

plus it's an attention getter for people who know anything about maximas. (Hey I didn't know Nissan made a supercharged maxima) The badge looks like an OEM part and matches the SE almost perfectly so it a good conversation starter.

Never thought about that one but don't you want to be a sleeper. no one will know what you got under the hood until they see your rear

My plan was... once I get my S/C, I would cut the middle dash off of the "SE" logo so it will read " SC "
Nice kill, DMan!!! Did you take you puppy to the track yet?

A few years ago, when I was still in my clunky 'ol 82 Z28 - 15.30s @ 90-91mph, I ran a NA 3000GT over & over, I would always pull him by about a car-length. As soon as I sell enough Nissan parts, the '82 is getting a built 406!

Not quite sure what kind of hp the 93' 3000 GT have? Those cars are VERY heavy but if he's a good shifter he might get you (that is if his hp is 222) Good luck though and try. You win some and lose some but you'll never know unless you try.

93 3000GT SL: 222HP, 3373lb, 5-spd manual.

I agree with DMan_2KMax - I think it'll come down to how good of a driver he is. If he's good enough I think he'll take you, but if not then you could come out ahead.

Just race and see

Both of you are right. You won't know if you don't try. I have raced cars that I know I'll lose to, but I still tried. You can't win them all. Btw, he's new to driving manual. So, I think I have a good chance.
