Exhaust problems yet?

Hey folks...

I have a 2000 Max SE with a definite break in the pipe due to corrosion that leads from the rear muffler to the mid pipe. The break has occurred where the pipes bolt togther - too bad it can't be fixed that easily. The clip that held the mid pipe also rusted off and I had that rewelded.

Anyway, I was wondering others were having the same problems and had any suggestions.

I'm looking at having the mid pipe and the muffler replaced - I know that the Max muffler is stainless steel and expensive. So far the best replacement I have found so far is Bosal - has anyone replaced their original exhaust yet?

There's about a zillion threads regarding exhaust, and the different types. Use the search option within the Stickies.
I feel bad for you guys in the Northern tier with all that corrosion from road salt.

Hey - I had the exact same thing happen. I replaced the muffler/rear pipe section with a new Nissan one. Yes, it was expensive (almost $300 I think) Buddy of mine replaced his with aftermarket, and I don't like the extra noise - it's annoying. I also had a shop re-weld the hanger that rusted off of the mid pipe. Replacing mufflers/exhaust components on a 2000 max is pretty common. Considering I've only replaced brakes, tires, an o2 sensor, muffler and front stabilizer links in 137,000 miles, I've done well.

I had the same corrosion problem, in the same area. The guy at the local mufler shop said that all maximas rear pipe brakes where the pipes bolt together. Anyway, I bought a warpspeed Y pipe and did a complete custom aluminized muffler set up for about $350.

have a shop cut off the flange on both the midpipe and rear section and weld a little pipe on there. wen you need to take the exhaust off, just cut the pipe where the flange was. these flange rust problems are pretty common. its the design of the flange itself that causes water to just lay on the surface of it

Count me in too. Had the same problem. I replaced mine with a custom catback using a Magnaflow resonator and muffler. The Stainless Steel piping was custom bent by Lou's Custom Exhaust n Lawrence MA. $288 installed.

I like the nice low note the exhaust has now. The sound almost disappears at 2800RPM. With my auto tranny the motor runs ~3KRPM at 80MPH so it doesn't drone on the highway.

pretty much everyone who lives anyplace it snows has had this exact problem. Nice quality control, Nissan! Note the absence here of anyone from Cali or the South.....no road salt.

Get a new one, or go stainless with a Cattman, IMO.

I just moved to the south from Boston and I am hoping I can beat this problem.
