Brakes squeak while reversing. Why?

Why do my brakes make this deathly annoying/girl like screeching noise when I'm in reverse and applying the brakes? My pads are brand new, and my rotors are new OEM installed about 6 months ago.

i remember two of my friend's car, had squeaky brakes everytime they went into reverse and applied brakes...it turns out it was their rear brakes...all they did was buy new pads and rotors...and problem solved...

i'm not sure if this will apply in your case, however...

make sure the shims and backing plates on the pads are lubed. get some brake cleaner and spray between the pad and rotor contact surface.

+1. I'd check these and make sure they're not making contact with the rotor or anything else.

It is recommended that you have your rotors turned when installing new pads. They say if you don't, your brakes will glaze over casuing squelling and possible warpage.

check for uneven wear. One Pad may be down to the metal while the other is still like new. Happens when calipers go bad.

were all 4 changed or just the front? what kind of rear brakes/e-brake does it have? if it's a drum style e-brake inside the rotor, I'd check that too.

Maxima's don't have drum brakes. At least 5th+ Gens don't.

Squeaky Brakes

mine does the same thing, I was told it was because the pads are worn in one direction (forward) that sometimes when applying them in reverse direction they will squeal. My pads and discs are new also. Hope this helps, Steve

Mine used to do that... I did a brake job all around about a month ago, and the rears were compl. worn. As a matter of fact, one of my rear tires locked up in reverse cuz i procrastinated so long, almost ruined one of my rims. Word of advice, dont wait, check them now just in case even tho they are brand new. BTW, both my rear calipers were frozen, maybe you have the same prob?

Who installed them? Methinks they need to be looked over again...

We could hypothesize as to what is wrong with them, but you really won't be able to see if anything is maligned or rubbing unless you get them apart.
