Quick newb question.

Here is a newbish question, will adding just a HKS sport rear change the sound much (on a VQ35)? Im not really in the market for performance, at least not yet. Im just looking for sound. Just a quick yes or no will suffice, but longer responses are welcome.

yes, it will change it to loud, droney, and ricey.

If you want a good low, louder rumble, get a Cattman exhaust. HKS is

look in the stickies....there is a compilation of exhaust sound clips....

Really.... Im glad you said something, that is definatly NOT what I want. Looks like ill go with the cattman then. I know its been said MANY times, but im looking more for a G35ish sound, and it sounds like the cattman might be a bit closer to that. Thank you!

PS. I did see the sticky, but I couldnt find anything with just a rear.

The Cattman and Frankencar are the closest to G35 sound, though they are not the same. Frankencar is really hard to get these days.

The Cattman on the 3.5 has some volume to it, but is not super-loud and the tone is pretty low...sounds almost like a V8 under the hood.

I also suggest a Cattman b-pipe to replace the restrictive stock one.

Oh great, now im wanting to get the cat-back, lol. From what iv been reading, I thought the b-pipe didnt do much for power unless you did the headers too. Am I wrong in thinking this?

on the maxima, the rear section (muffler) OEM is very free-flowing. The b-pipe replacement gives more gains than the muffler, because the OEM b-pipe has a big crimp in it (look under your car, you'll see) that's restrictive.

The muffler/rear section is really just for sound...nobody really gains any power just replacing them. B-pipe is good for 2-3hp or so. Muffler <1hp.

here, you can kind of see the crimp if you look hard...it's at the corner aft of the resonator.

Interesting....How about sound? Is the cattman resonator any louder than the OEM?

a little bit. The Cattman rear section is straight-through, so it is definitely noticeable, but not TOO loud and definitely not ricey.
