how much oil does the vq30dek take?

I did a quick check on the stickies in both the 5g & fluids forums, and I couldn't find an answer.

I figured it would take 4L like my old 4th gen, but that doesn't seem to bring the dipstick all the way up to full. Does it take 4.5 quarts/litres?

It takes 4.25 quarts if you also change the oil filter.

Consult your owner's manual.

I don't have the owners manual right now.

4.25 quarts, ok that sounds a little more about right.

A quart is less than a litre, hence the 4.25 quarts. That is with the filter also. You can always do it the old fashioned way, check the dipstick. That tells me every time!

I can't believe this thread is still going and I've lost my patience. You are never going to get all the oil out of an engine via the oil drain plug. So put in about half a quart/litre less than the max. capacity listed in the owners's manual. Let the car sit on LEVEL ground and let it cool down preverably overnight and then check the DIPSTICK. Add oil as required to bring it up to the FULL mark. Yeah, I know the dipstick ain't the best but live with it. And check the level consistantly the same way and you'll know I much it's using.

Damn, pretty hostile for a nOOb. nOObs like us should be a little more understanding, especially to a vet, W/ 3000+ posts. And also read his 1st post, Where does he say anything about wanting to get all the oil out or how much it consumes? If you read the 1st post you will see he just wants the capacity.

uhhh, yeah. youre not going to have a half quart of oil left in the pan unless you drained it on a hill, facing downhill. it really works to drain the oil facing up a SLIGHT hill, helps just a bit.

Wow, I see it takes very little for you to lose your patience.

I am clearly aware that I will never get all of the oil out of the motor. And on an initial oil change, I never go by the dipstick because it is always wrong...I always have to check it after the car has sat for an extended period of time.

Anyhow, 1 quart = 0.946 liters, and so 4.25 quarts seems correct.
