stut mount bearing replacement advice needed
Hey guys,
In another thread I inquired about clicking noise coming from the front end of my 02 SE with 90K. Hoping it may be the front sway bar bushings, I replaced it with SE bushing. While I do like the changes (and OEM ones weren’t’ too worn either), the clicking noise persists.
Last Saturday I went to the dealer to install a set of new Goodyear Eagle F1 GS ($666.00 delivered from TireRack) and asked them to diagnose. Their opinion is strut mount bearings are shut.
My questions:
First off, what could/will happen if just ignore this noise and continue to drive the car?
The car has 90k on it. Does it make sense to replace the front struts entirely and not just the bearings? The “Bound bumper rubber” are torn, and so the shocks may be damaged already; hovewer, no other signs are exept the clicking noise present.
If so, should I go for the “premium” components or with OEM? Any brand/place recommendations? If replacing the struts, should all four ends to be replaced?
If choose to replace the bearings, what other components should I buy considering the mileage of the car?
Last but not least, is this something that can be done on a driveway, without a lift? Do you guys have any suggestions for the spring compressor - it seem to be the only specialty tool needed.
BTW, the dealer (Len Stoler Baltimore) quoted $130 for each end for the labor, before the alignment.
Thank you guys,
Eugene

i doubt it's the strut bearing. check your:
a) sway bar links
b) cv joint on the axle
plus, from your mod list i can see that your are not even lowered, so there's no reason for your strut bearing to go bad...
ALWAYS questionb mechanics nowadays, theyt seldom know wtf they are talking about.
