Cheapest place to get OEM brakes
Hi guys. So I have been away for a while and I dont remember what's what. My PBR Axis pads are worn out and I need new brakes. I hate the ones I have noe too much dust so I decided to stick with OEM ones because I dont remember having dust problems with them.
Could you guys point me in the right direction to get the cheapest 2K1 breaks please? Also how much should I expect for all 4 pads?
Lastly should I go with OEM or Aekibonos (sp?)?

Sure get oem ones and when you get that ""WARPED ROTORS FEEL"" you'll go back to the previous ones. Since we all know oem brake pads suck *** as they cause that ""WARPED ROTORS FEEL"" why would you want to by them. The oem ones suck because they dont withstand high temperatures well and become glazed over. Thus they cant grip rotors surface blah blah blah. The cheap sht from autozone does the same thing. Go to tirerack.com get yourself some good brakes pads and rotors so that in two to four weeks your not posting that your rotors are warped already. I run Hawk hps all around with brembo blanks in the front and some cheap autozone rotors for the rear. I drive like a psycho and brake hard all the time and i have had this set up for over a year now and NO WARPED ROTORS YET. Dont be cheap get the better stuff first to save yourself from spending more money later

hmmm thanks. But I want something that is quiet and doesn't produce much break dust. I got 50,000 miles with my OEM ones and my rotors are still fine so I dunno. What about the Akebono one's?
I definately dont want to go with the cheap generic ones at autozone or whatever.

Recently purchased Hawk HPS (Front + Rear set) for $118.xx shipped from http://www.autoanything.com. Used $10 off coupon code "AFF060420". You can buy them via www.fatwallet.com and get another 10 dollars back if you are into that kind of thing. If not, $118 is still a good price for Hawk pads IMO.

I've personally never had any warping problems with stock pads or rotors, but I like the way cermaic pads feel when your braking. Right now I am running Bendix TitaniumetillicII and they sqeeked alot for the first 2 weeks but now they are great. Very good bit and no noise at all. I have Raybestyos PG plus in the rears and no complaints there either. Ordered both from www.partsamerica.com

Sorry for the newb question, but can someone please explain what warped rotors feel like? My steering wheel shakes when I brake at highway speed and I wanted to know if I need to change the rotors, brake pads or both. Thanks

just get them machined and have your brake pads checked if they are worn just replace them with HAWK's and you are ready to fly.
I own 2k1 and i have 114000k on it...and I have never replaced rotors even though i do most of the city driving with hardcore braking. just had my rotors machined with new pads all done in $110.00 including labor. u can save money but rest is up to u.
you do need to machine or replace your rotors before your shaking become worse.

thanks guys but the HAWKS are still a bit pricey for me. I was about to get the Akebono but uhm I dont see any rear pads? I need all 4. Do they not make ones for the rear? Would that mean I have to get different pads then?
And how "better" are they than the OEM ones? Thanks.

aamir - steering wheel shaking when braking at highway speed = warped rotors.
As OC Guy said, you can machine your rotors but you might not be able to machine them 3 times -- it depends how warped your rotors are. If they are warped bad, the machining process will have to remove alot of the rotor in order to make them smooth. The more of the rotor that is taken off, the thinner your rotors are and the more likely they are to warp again.
Give machining a try to save some money and buy you a little time...or just replace your rotors and change pads as others have said to try to avoid future warping.
Good luck!
