Ewww, Raspy Exhaust tone now

I just put my strait pipe in tonight and my exhaust sounds yucky.. Do you guys think putting my stock resonator back in will make it sound better??

So basically you have no cat and a stock muffler?

I am new to this(just got rid of GT stang), what is the difference between the muffler and resignator? Due changing these improve performance?

The resonator is the cylindrical section of pipe that is before the muffler. It cuts down on exhaust noise. Getting rid of the resonator should not make a big difference in performance. But, it may make things a bit noisier.

Adam,
Did you replace your muffler also?
I would leave the resonator on it is a high flow design stock. With out the cat you are polluting, and will get a huge fine if caught. Besides the cat also is a high flow design. Your maxima is a tuned exhaust replace a peice and you change the tones.

yup i still have the stock muffler on, i think im going to put the resonator back on

hi flow?

no stock exhaust is hi flow.....no matter what they claim...no matter how hi flow the exhaust a company claims...they always put loudness first...they wont sacrifice hi flow for loudness...they would rather have it quiet instead...so its more hi flow but never truly hi flow...thats why a new exhaust on almost any car gives mroe power. keep the resonator off....just put on a new muffler.

we gutted adams cat a couple weeks ago and you can believe me...it is far from high flow...take your cat off and just take a look...the exhaust has to travel through hundreds of tiny holes in the cat...we gutted his cat and felt a pretty big gain on high end power...now we both bought straight pipes...he can't tell the difference between the gutted cat and the straight pipe and neither can i...it made both of our cars a little louder and we are both considering changing back to a normal cat...we are going to the track this friday to see, though
