how could i fix my headlights?

The other day I was looking at the great picture thread and I noticed that almost everybody's headlights were perfectly clean. Then when I looked at my headlights on my Max, I noticed that they were foggy and every time I would clean them, then would still have that foggy look to them. By now I am guessing that it is something inside the headlights. But I don't know how I can clean them. Can anybody please help?

Thanks

I noticed the same thing when I cleaned mine with 3M plastic cleaner/polish.

Although I have not tried it yet, I plan to get one of those polishing ***** you insert into a drill. I think this will allow the pressure and... polishing motion needed to really get the lens looking good. I really dont think doing it by hand is very effective.

If your lights are really bad, you can buy a wet sanding kit to revive your lenses.

If the problem really is on the inside you will have to remove the lens and do the same to the inside.

Hope this helps

Look through the Maintenance section under Detailing, you'll find a how-to on that.

I would highly recommend using MaGuires PlastX! Did wonders for mine. After that, rub shaving cream over the lenses and wipe it off to prevent fogging.

I am actually doing that 25 minute thing to my headlights this weekend. I will post before and after pics when I do. I did buy the Mother's Powerball though.

Wet sand them. Start out with 800 grit - 1000 grit - 1600 grit - 2000 grit. Add a bit of Dawn soap with the water (makes it more slippery, which is good). As long as you end up with 2k grit you are fine. Then polish them with 3M plastic polish or Meguiars Scratch X. They will look brand new when you are done.

I would second the wet sanding method. It worked wonders for me. I recently used another product called flitz that worked really well. A friend of mine have some spre so I decided to give it a whirl. I will say thought with the grit polishes like flitz mother etc. You need to have a buffer (or drill bit one). A hand towel isnt enough friction to lift the haze completely.

I agree PlastX is great if the problem is build up on the outside of the headlights but if it is on the inside it won't help
