Whirling noise from the EEM electronic engine mount
Whirling noise from the EEM electronic engine mount
Any idea how can I go around this problem? There is this non-stop whirling noise from the electronic engine mount on my 2003 GLE (35K miles out of warranty). The whirling noise is on even if the engine is on or off for hours. It just constantly makes that whirling noise non-stop. I tried resetting by removing the (+) current from the battery and hoping it will stop…. but it did not work. My only remedy now is to disconnect the power cable that goes to the electronic engine mount to avoid it from burning. With that said, my Max runs fine without SES light going off so far. I guess is not a critical component. Any damage if I keep it unplugged? I am pretty sure the electronic engine mount is not broken. And my suspicion is that the ECU is sending a false signal to the electronic engine mount that makes it non stop. I read a thread that replacing the EEM will cost over $500 while the ECU is in the neighborhood of $300.
Anyone experienced this problem before? If it comes down to a new ECU, how much labor and replacement are we talking about at the dealer?
Thanks a bunch guys!

I had the same issue a couple of years back, Dealer said he could not hear anything, and eventually, my ECU was burnt. Dealer replaced ECU under warranty, and the sound just disappeared after the new ECU was installed. Not sure if the issue was with the mount or the ECU itself.
My suggestion is better get it looked at sooner than later. I am not saying the same thing would happen to you, but why take chances. Maybe try resetting the ECU and see if it helps before heading out to the stealer.

Get to a dealer. Hopefully the warranty will cover it. I would squawk if it doesn't. This issue was seen on the Gen. 5s. Nissan generated a TB # 01010 to cover replacement of the ECM and/or the mounts. Could this be cropping up on Gen. 5.5s?
If the dealer says that Electronic Engine Mount needs replacement according to the TSB, will this work come out of my pocket now that my 3yr 36K warranty has expired last December? BTW, is there a link where I can look up this TSB # 01010? Thanks guys.
TB # 01010 is in theory not applicable to "02 and "03s, but you may be able to use it as leverage to have Nissan pay for at least part of the fix. I was just wondering if this problem has been starting to be seen up on "02s and "03s. This could be a very expensive fix and something (the mount or the ECM) has failed prematurely. TBs definitely are not automatically going to be covered by Nissan. It depends on how good the dealer is and how you deal with the dealer and Nissan if it gets that far. Up here in Canada some TBs are called "Secret Warranties" by consumer groups. To search for TBs etc. go to www.nissanhelp.com Actually your best "argument" is your low mileage on the car.
Clearsky, see this post: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=401813
If you have any questions, let me know. It sounds like you are experiencing the same problem I did.
This is the link for the TSB:

This technology is similar to the newer magnetic heological fluid suspensions that are cropping up. I think the newer Cadi's, Corvette and Benz's are using this as it is much faster responding and allows sportier attributes then the older air style suspensions.
