I'm sure some people will have differing opinons on this.. I personally wouldn't go for it. OEM sunroofs are highly reliable, but aftermarket ones are prone to leakage. I say this knowing a few people over the years who have had it done and it did not turn out well. Granted, I suppose some shops are better at it than others, but overall the chances of it leaking are a lot higher if you dont have one straight from the factory.

mostly likely it will leak.... the OEM sunroofs have braces and cuts made so that nothing leaks.... with after market you'll never match a factory seal.... i could be wrong tho

i think u can cut the entire roof down... and weld a roof that has a sunroof (call junkyeard).... i am pretty sure it can be done... but it will cost alot.... and it will weaken your A,B and C pillar..... correct me if i am wrong...
but for that kinda price and job, u better off trade your car in for another max thats with a sunroof....

Its liek the transmission swap, it can be done and people have done it but for the amount of work you might as well trade in your car.

there are places that do it on an assembly line basis, 950 for the tilt, pop up slide that is exactly like factory, and it even auto closes when u shut key off, they offer a lifetime warrenty against failure and leakage, i sent hundreds to this place called auto sunroof in quakertown pa. do a search u will find a reputable shop close, this was mastered, not like 10 years ago when this wasnt advisale do to leaking

When they say OEM, they dont mean buying an OEM sunroof, they mean getting the vehicle from the factory with the moonroof.

Are you asking the price for an OEM? The OEM's should only be be used for replacement. Buying an OEM and installing in the car is like buying an aftermarket one. You still have to cut the roof, which, will eventually leak in the future. If you're car didn't come with a sunroof when it was manufactured, then it's not worth putting one in because it will only give you more problems in the long run. Like someone said, if you want a sunroof, you're better off buying a car that was manufactured with one.

I kinda like lalamax's idea. Just cut off your entire roof and weld another roof that has a moonroof. Kind of like the show wife swap, but roof swap. Maybe you can find a roof with a rag top and moonroof.

If your Maxima did'nt come with a sunroof I would not recommend putting one in, whether its a different kind or the OEM type. It's a 50/50 chance that it might not come out the way you expected it and not to mention it could leak too. But it's up to you. The final decision is yours.

My Max has the roof, and if I could I would get rid of it. It is malfunctioning and opens by itself. One day I came out of my house, mind you it poured the enitire night, and my sunroof was open. Dont ask me how, cause I never keep it open during the day, to damn hot... You are better off without one.

But of course that is just my opinion. Good luck

stay away from aftermarket sunroofs. I had an aftermarket in my '97 Altima and it was the worst decision

Definitely., if you have no sunroof currently. I would not go cutting your rood to put one in. Like its been said, I have 2 friends that have done that and they BOTH leak. Last thing you want is a leaky sunroof.

If I wanted a sunroof in my Maxima - I would have no issues having an aftermarket sunroof installed. Just make sure the company is reputable and see if you can examine some of their work finished and in progress.

Here is a excellent example of a quality installed aftermarket sunroof..

and the car it was installed into...

You know, it's really weird, I hardly ever use my sunroof for anything. Actually, the times I do use it, it's pretty much just for the purpose of not wasting the option. Same thing with my 99 max, seems like a complete waste to me. But somehow, when I was shopping for cars, I wouldn't even look at cars that didn't have a sunroof and spoiler...

I say forget it, too costly and risky. Some shops will do a good job, but there is still the cost of it. Take that money and do something cooler.

You know what... I have always had a sunroof. When I bought my previous car a Pathfinder. I said, you know what, I don't need that ****. I never use it. 4 months later, I was wishing I had it. My max has it now, and I hardly ever touch

A Maxima w/ sunroof from the factory has two channels built into the body to drain water away from the sunroof.Down the sides of the car,and out the rear wheel wells...no leaks. No matter who puts in an after market sunroof it will eventully leak.

So your saying that the sunroof equipped Maximas have drain channels built into the body of the car and un-equipped models do not? That doesn't sound very logical. Thats like Maximas with/without heated seats/mirrors and other power options. The wiring is there but its just not being used on unequipped models. I thought all the differient options were dealer installed anyhow, including sunroof. Feel free to correct me.

The sunroof is not worth spending any money on, youlll never use it because its loud, and easier to roll down your window, also it will leak, and you cant even see it so its no benefit Just leave it how it is.

In my 2nd gen, I always used my sunroof. I never had it slide back cause the sun would just toast my head and arms, so I only used the tilt. It would always backfire though cause I would forget to close it and it would rain. I miss it in my 5th.
