reading up in the newer Road and Track and checking out their index of accel./handling in the back and MAN are they way off. Have the Max down at 7.8 (ive seen 6.8) and the Porsche 911 turbo at 4.0 (ive seen it at 3.6). Those were the only two i knew off hand so everyone be aware that they prob. dont know how to drive most of the cars to the limit.

7.8?!?!? Is that for an auto or manual? I'm assuming manual, but I thought they only tested manuals if possible.

I haven't seen them test a 5 speed since like '96.

Really? Check out the stats in one of the old mags... IIRC, they give manual numbers.

I happen to have my "giant stack o' Maxima road tests" here...

MT 2/95 SE 5spd 6.6 / 15.2
MT 2/95 GXE Auto 7.6 / 15.7
R&T 5/95 I30 Auto 7.8 / 16.0
R&T 6/97 SE 5spd 7.1 / 15.5

Those numbers seem pretty accurate, they vary as one would expect with the added weight of the I30 and the added emissions controls of the 97. Road and Track also makes a big deal sometimes how they don't go for the absolute best time at the expense of the car (i.e. dumped clutch at 5000RPM).

No prob, I keep the stack of magazines with any mention of the 4th gen separate from my huge "general" stack. I've got a bunch of articles on the SMX and the R&T look at the I30 ELSE, it was done up with Eibach/Koni, Greddy, Enkei RSEs, damn sweet looking car.
