"plug & play" 2k1 HID lights...

http://www.xenondepot.com/product.php?product_id=98

While considering doing a a 2k1 to 2k2 headlight conversion, my brother and I came across these. After emailing the guy that runs the webpage, he replied about the installation:

Hi,

This unit will make use of the OEM headlight harness. With this application
you will have HID for the low beams however the high beams will still be
halogen.

In terms of wiring, your OEM H4 headlight plug has 3 inputs - low beam, high
beam, and ground.

You will need to plug the low beam section of our harness into the low beam
slot of your harness, the high beam to the high beam slot, and the ground to
the ground.

Steve
Anyone try these? Good results? Worth the money? I didn't know that there were "plug & play" HID headlights for 2k1, so I'm a little worried about the results. Any insights?

These are a waste of money. They are the crappy e-bay projectors with an HID kit included.

If you want HIDs you can get a pair of 2k2 or 2k3 OEM light housings and use those. Or, you could buy the e-bay housings for 140(?), some xenon projectors and some OEM HID parts from HIDPlanet and spend about 1/2 price for everything.

It will take a little work to retrofit the xenon projectors into those e-bay houses ... but the output would certainly be worth it.

You could do a ebay projector retrofit for much less and get better results. That's just IMO.

On the flip side, I would like to see how they've constructed the electrical harness.

Honestly, these wouldn't be crap if they actually replaced the low-beam projector with a HID bi-xenon projector. However, for $1000 you can definitely pick up the projectors off ebay and buy the necessary bulbs, ballasts, wiring, and do it yourself. I'm currently in the process of doing a retro on my 00. Check out HID Planet and their forums.

agreed. With OEM (or the depot copies) you don't need projectors really because putting them in properly is not a child's play.

But that's your best route. OEM housings + some hella/phillips HID components. Or even any other other chinese pos HID kit for a total of 300$ or so. 1000$ for the above link is a rip off.
