Car is not willing to start

Yesterday when i started my car, the car is not willing to start. You can just hear the engine is trying to get it start but it's just hard to start. My car is 81000 miles and it's a 2k2 SE.

what might cause the problem?

intake too dirty?
spark plug?
alternator?

Please advise, thanks

Make sure you have sufficient voltage. An easy test with no tools is to try to jump the vehicle or listen to the engine crank.

If it's cranking good, start with spark then check fuel. (pull a coil and put a screw driver inside the coil with the otherside grounded about 1/6" away from a bolt.) A spark should jump from the screwdriver to the bolt. Make sure you have someone else crank the engine while holding the screwdriver. If you are getting good spark and you don't have the screwdriver providing a ground while cranking, the spark will arc thru the coil and it will eventually go bad. (could be months down the road.)

BTW: make sure the screwdriver has a handle. I know it's obvious, but by the time I don't mention it someone will grab a solid piece of metal and shock the hell out of themselves.

turn on your car and listen inside for the fuel pump to prime. it will be a very light whirring sound. if no sound, check your fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse. if those 2 are fine, check your fuel pump iteself. if you hear the pump, then check your battery/terminals/connections.
