New Springs in Front only? Advice?
New Springs in Front only? Advice?
Hey all, just finished installing my new 350 18"rims on my 00 Max... The fit perfectly but had one question there is still a 2.5-3 in. wheel gap in the front. The back is perfect with a 1" gap.
I was wondering if there were any setups where you could just lower the front?
Thanks,
Donovan

From a handling standpoint, I wouldn't recommend mixing springs (even though mine are mixed now) by just lowering the front. I guess if its only for looks it'll be okay. Several people have done it around here so I'll let them chime in. Its also hard to buy just front springs since they usually come in a set of 4.
My recommendation for you would be to get springs like Tein H-techs that drop the front more relative to the back; the drop is 1.6F 1.0R. Or get coilovers where you can adjust the height all round to something that you like. Handling with coilovers will be awesome too, if you set em up right.

I'm very pleased w/ my front only H&R setup. Rides like stock, handles better than stock, and eliminates the ugly front wheel gap. I've been running H&Rs front only on stock struts for 2 years. No issues.

On a side note though... I must say the Z wheels look mighty nice on the Max...

house,
I've browsed through your web but just want to clarify what you've done... What springs do you have installed? and is that it as far as mods? I only ask because your how-to's have F/R springs and struts installation...
Thanks,
D

Techincally installing front springs only will just add more understeer. If you have a RSB then it could be canceled out. Its not an issue unless you autocross or road race.
If you cant find a set of 4 springs you like at least run the same 4 struts, pref. adjustables.

I was rolling with the front onlt drop for a few months with Maxspeeds. Ride was very stock like. Got rid of the unsightly gap. Then I Got Htechs/illuminas all around but the front Htechs were too soft IMO. I bottomed out ALOT so I threw the maxspeed fronts on Htech back. Ride is back to stock like feel with a 3/3 setting. But If you still want to keep the front only thing going, I agree you should go with H&R. It'll give you a good looking drop (rid u of the gap) and still ride nice.
Try to score up a set of Maxspeeds. VERY slight drop in the back, and a decent drop up front to even it out. They can be found CHEAP, and ride is similar to stock since they are linear (like stock)

I've been trying to decide on which springs to get and have seen the Maxspeeds set (F&R) for $99 + shipping. I'm thinking of going with them & the OEM struts for a while...only 34K on original struts.
Irish44 - you say a slight drop in the back and decent drop in the front...all the specs say drop is 1.4 F/1.3 R for the Maxspeeds. I see the final numbers on Housecor's site. With the front stock height about 1" higher than the rear (on Housecor's site), how does the front end up lower than the rear? Are the specs wrong?
I'm not doubting you...just wondering what I'm missing
