Is it a good deal ?
First, I'm not 100% sure if this is where I post about this but if I'm wrong.. I'm really sorry.. and please remove this to the correst spot so I don't make the same mistake twice..
Now,
I've been looking for a 5th gen Maxima for quite a bit now. Recently I came across this one 2000 maxima SE. Ext/Int looks like it's in mint condition. It has 70,xxx miles. It has all the options that I need such as : sunroof, power everything, clothe seats. the car is out at a dealer for $7800. I think I can bring the price down a little bit if I negotiate but do you maxima owners think that the price is right for the car ?
any response would be great. THANKS!

That price sounds good to me, not knowing anything else about the car.
Manual or automatic trans? I ask because if you are targeting the manual 5-speed, you may actually like the shifter feel of the 2000-2001 over the 02-03's because the '00-'01 had rod-operated shift linkage as God intended cars to have, whereas us 5.5 gen 6-speed guys have a cable operated shifter, which is "OK" for such a design, but not nearly as precise and sweet as a rod-linkage shifter..

IMO, you're stealing it from the guy at $7800. I just bought a loaded '03 SE/TE 6spd w/ 50k for $15,500.
If it's the car you want, pull the trigger, you won't find a better price, but like that guy said, why does it say $12,995 on the sticker? (Still not a bad starting price but i wouldn't pay more than 10k for that car.)
Also, i 100% agree on the mechanic checking out the car before you buy. You will have to pay the fee (usually an hours labor). But they will find stuff that will help you negotiate the price down (paint chips, low brakes, etc)... BUT! Bring it to a guy you TRUST! Because i brought mine to a guy who i dont know from a hole in the wall and he charged me $75 to tell me it was due for an oil change (and it had just gotten one that morning!)...he was reading the oil change sticker....
good luck.

The price on the sticker says $12,995 but I've been informed that you pay 12k only if you're not buying on internet.
And about the mechanic checking the car out, My dad's friend is a mechanic so I think he can help me out with that.
Do you think the dealer would know if the coils were ever changed before ? I ask because it is a 2000 model. I could also ask the mechanic though right ?

The dealership will not know/will not tell you the history of the vehicle. Your best bet is to pull the vin and see if the dealership did the work. When your talking about dropping 10K for a car $500 for coils isn't real important and can't really be used when low balling.

Or at least in my case.

you can check the coils easily
just bring an allen wrench, and take off the plastic valve cover.. from there you can check the 3 front coils if they have a grey dot (which means they are they updated version and have been replaced since stock)... the rear coils, just look for them at the back of the engine bay..
