Laugh all you want, stopped at a Meinecke
to get a price on the installation of the
Greddy Catback System and they pitched me
on their own system. They showed me
stainless steel exhausts, they look like the
Greddy and HKS, one with the dual tip and the
other was just a fat can. They guy told me
that I could see through both systems, not
sure what that means, I guess it's not
packed with anything, still not sure what
that means. He also told me he would give me
aluminum coated 2.25 steel piping from the cat
to the new exhaust, and said it could be done
within an hour or two. He even brought me
outside to show me his older Toyota Supra with
the same exhaust. It sounded ok but what do I
know? To make a long story short, he said he
it would cost 3 bills, parts and installation.
Anyone have any information on the Meinecke
performance parts? I normally try and steer
away from cheesy deals when it comes to my
Maxima, but the difference between $300 and
$650 is a pretty big difference. About a front
and rear clear marker difference, along with
some other stuff.

eh....no....i wouldn't do my exhaust at Meinecke or Midas...not to take away anything from them....they are probably very reputable muffler shop when it comes to fixing OEM mufflers....or Mustangs and Camaros....i mean, you can go to any other muffler shop and guess what? chances are you may get even cheaper price for your cat-back. i'm not saying these are bad ways to go about getting your exhaust but i just don't feel like taking a chance with exhaust systems. especially, i'm in cali, so any kind of exhaust modification is illegal and i need some sort of paper work from Greddy or HKS(if they ever give you any..) to fight off the cops and the EPA people....
i'd rather pay a little more and buy something that's been designed for my car ground-up.
but this is just my own opinion.....

Funny Story

I had a friend who decided to put a Flowmaster Exhaust on his Formula (89). He wanted to do it quicker than my scheduled appointment for a similar exhaust at a custom muffler shop, for my Ram Air T/A (95) a week later. Well it was done at Midas....and then redone a week later right after my install. They don't do mandrel bending and they even installed his custom 3 inch tips on top of the mufflers 2 1/2 inch tips. When the custom shop cut them off......two sets of tips hit the ground. Needless to say...we got a good laugh at his expense, literally. They even ended up selling me a Dynomax Ultraflow system that outflowed the Flowmaster and sounded slightly quieter also. Thats why you pay a little more $$$$$, Midas is reasonable but they are not dedicated to specialty work.

You shouldn't have to pay more than $175.00 for a crush-bent, aluminized steel, 2.25" catback system including the muffler and the tip. My mandrel-bent, aluminized-steel, 2.5" catback cost less than $300.00 including a 24" Magnaflow muffler and a Sebring Tuning stainless steel tip.

i went to midas a long time ago when i was looking for a place to remove my stock resonator and put a straight pipe in...the guy looked under my car and told me that i had 3 mufflers and no resonator or 'whatever i was talking about'...i explained where and what the resonator was and how the other thing he thought was a muffler was the cat and in all reality there was only one muffler...he got kind of angry and started babbling about how he had been doing this for 20 some odd years and i act like i know more then him...he said if i want them to do it, i have to just tell them which 'muffler' i want taken off...needless to say, i have never and will never go back to midas or any cheap little muffler chain
