I did this as well but i like the stock colors on the gauges better, the bulb size is 74. I switched my turn signals from green to blue though, I manage to fit 194 bulbs for the gauges making them WAY brighter but not losing the color scheme of the cluster. THerefore! My numbers are still blue, need is still RED and the other parts are still WHite. I didn't have enough 194 bulbs so I haven't finish the whole cluster i will take a picture of it when i'm done but i don't think it would do justice.... maybe i'll take a picture of it when i only have 1 install so then you can tell the difference.

I bought 4 of the #24 LED, $4.99. I have a crappy digicam so it doesn't show up that good, but it's an evenly spread of the blue light. The gear indicator lights up a nice blue as well.

No one tried the 6.99 ones yet and i wasn't going to chance it, but when i opened it up it looked like there was more than enough room to fit them in.

If you're thinking about mixing up colors, i don't know how good they will turn out. The LED that lights up the fuel gauge also lights up the left side of the speedometer and same the the temp gauge and the right side of the RPM gauge.

Down sides:

- I had to take the gauges out 3 time cuz the LED needs to be installed with the correct polarity. They wont light up if it's in wrong.

- The needles don't light up as bright as they use to.

heres the pic of the one i used

I've only seen pics of this done on the 5th gen which has a blue film between the bulbs and the guages. However, the 5.5 gen SE has a cluster that lights up green, and a somewhat different display, does anyone know if this works well with the 5.5 gen? Slow Moe is the only one in this thread that says he did it and he hasn't been around to say what it looks like, and if it is worth it. I'm interested but not sure I wanna screw up my guage cluster. How much risk of messing things up is there?

rydi, jus don't break anything its pretty easy not to. the polarity of the led should be positve down and negative up if you are lookin at the cluster from the front and have it right side up. well at least thats for my 00 SE, which i hated the leds in...it ruined the color scheme =(

question: I got the cluster out and unscrewed one of the bulbs. It's a glass bulb sitting in a black plastic base. I couldn't manage to get the glass bulb out of the base, though I didn't pull that hard for fear of crushing the glass or otherwise messing it up. The LED bulbs I have (size #74) do not have the black plastic screw in base. Do I need to get ones with that base, or will the glass bulb separate from the base with more effort?

BTW, the chrome rings look awesome and make the cluster look brighter even with the stock bulbs.

While we are discussing guages. Does any1 know if there will ever be a cluster made for our cars with "real" LED guages like in the lexus, acura or the new Infinitis? Im talking about the ones where you can see anything at all when the car is off but when you turn it on everything lights up to the fullest and then just dims when you have your headlights on.

Thanks, I did read your first post and if I read the info correctly on the website I brought the bulbs from, #74 supposedly fits in the same opening as #24.

I installed the #24's in my 5.5 tonight. I was very dissapointed. The light output was very low. I would have taken pictures but it wasn;t worth it. I would have had to take a time exposure which would have skewed the output. I think there is something in the 5.5 that blocks some of the output, I used the bulbs in the climate control, ashtray and just above the ashtray. They look good there.

Actually, I reread the original post and I ordered a skightly different bulb from another company. Turns out the bulbs from the original post are much brighter than the ones I got. Try them out and let everyone know how it works out. Doesn;t take much time. Sorry for possibly steering some of you wrong.

Anyone have pics of these bulbs on a 5.5? I know Oldmanshirt was working on his, just want to know if it looks good or not . The guage clusters for the 5th gen and 5.5 gen are noticable different, and I doubt the output/color schemes are the same on the 5.5 gen as pictured in the 5th gen. Anyone know?

i have a 5.5 gen.
can somebody tell me if the $6.99 LED bulb will fit on the 5.5 gen?
im talking about the Tri-Power 4 LED bulb.

also how many bulbs would i need to get?

the biggest question is what color should i get? BLUE? or WHITE?

if these questions can be answered that would be great!
once i order and get the bulbs ill install them and post pics for all the other 5.5 gen owners to see.

you need 4 bulbs for the 5.5 which will light the tach odo and 2 little LCD displays. There are actually 7 bulbs, but the other 3 are for the seat belt, air bag etc...

I sent a few emails to autolumination. I was told the tri-led's actually only have 3 on them, 4 is a misprint. (6.99 bulbs) Yes they will fit but they will be very tight. They also claim those bulbs are their brightest available at around 80 lumens.

If you want to do the cliamte control get the neo wedge bulbs, you'll need 3 of those as well.

I tried to do the 6.99 bulbs yesterday on my 5.5 gen to take pics for all those folks out there interested. UPDATE: This project was a disaster. The bulbs did not fit correctly, and they didn't light up at all. Those of us working on the project rigged an apparatus to test the bulbs, and where all the stock ones lit up, the LEDs we couldn't get anything more than a quick flash from. I also ruined the twist lock bases for the bulbs trying to put the LEDs in. I was only able to salvage one of them so now I only have one stock bulb in my gauges, driving at night stinks. So I am going to work on replacing them with the 4.99 bulbs, hope I don't get hosed again. When they come in, I will take pictures for all those waiting for them.

Man.. that sucks

I hope you were able to get the bases from an autozone or something. I know autolumination has them, but thats going to take a while.

Also, knight tried the 4.99 ones and said that they sucked.

Was there anything different/unusual about the stock bulbs? Im trying to figure out why the leds would look bad in the 5.5 gen.

Nothing special about the stock bulbs. Knight ordered the bulbs from a different company, not autolumination. I ordered four new bases and 4 of the 4.99 bulbs to try them out. Should be here this week, I'll take document the process for anyone who wants to do this, and try to get some before/after pics (although I only have one working bulb atm, but who needs a tach anyway?)

5.5 gen guinea pig FTW!!!
