This may sound stupid, but are you using different-sized tires anywhere? This could throw off the ABS sensor. I remember using my doughnut with my 18's and the ABS light would come on every time I hit 50 (the speed limit of the spare). Also, you could have a bad ABS sensor, or one dying.

well I've had my 18's on my car for 8 months now so I think think that caused it. how do I tell which abs sensor is bad?

Ehhh...I don't know about the whole tire/wheel size causing it. Many people on here have bigger tire/wheel size combos and the ABS light is a rarity. I know the dealer can test each individual sensor. There may be a laymen's test in the FSM without using the Consult II that you might want to check out.

Wait...do you have a FSM for your Maxima? You should if you don't have one...they are invaluable.

Field Service Manual. It is the manual for the Maxima that the Nissan techs use. It is very detailed and thorough...much better than any manual you can get at an auto parts store.

Problem is they are expensive...I think about $150 to $200. But there are some people that might have an electronic copy you can purchase from.....

I had the same problem. Somedays the light would come on and somedays it wouldnt. Eventually my traction lights and my ABS light came on and stayed on, that's when I knew I had to get something fix. One of my ABS sensors from the rear went out or something like that. I took it to the dealer and they were able to fix it for about $200..

You can call around and check. I'm not sure if they can or not.

Well, what I was talking about specifically was a major difference in tire sizes on the same axle. I've had my 18's for several months now with no ABS light. I did get an ABS light with the doughnut on the back right and a 225/45/18 on the back left, due to (I'm assuming) a large enough difference in each wheel's speed of rotation, which is what causes ABS to shut itself off.

I wouldn't F with the ABS system, unless I was just replacing the sensor, and even then I'd be scared... Stuff like that can ruin a nice drive down the street...

Someone has all the FSM's hosted on a website.. you shouldn't have to pay for it. I'm not sure who - but pay $20 to use the search function and see if you can find the thread witht he link. The $20 will pay for itself
