- Does this power wire go to a relay?
- What does this wire power?
- Why not just splice into the headlight power wire?
I would suggest splicing into the glovebox light, which will be quite the PITA to get to, but will have the least noticable effect on your interior lights, if any.

I'm going to try to resurrect this thread. I can't believe I can't find an answer to this original question anywhere online. The Umnitza DDEs come with a secondary remote wire, but I'm looking for input for what the best thing to do with this wire is. I'd really love to be able to turn them on as I approach and unlock the car. It sounds like the dome light is probably the best option. Can you wire directly to the relay? Anyone? This can't be too hard can it??

How it works on the BMW DDE kits is that the SPDT relay has a secondary trigger. The main trigger, slot 87 is used for something like the parking lights, which turns on the rings when the parking light switch is turned on. The secondary, slot 87a, taps into a source like the dome light, so when you press lock/unlock it'll again send a signal for the rings to be lit. In the case of E46s, it taps into the passenger footwell light, and in our case, our dome light wire.

Also, does this mean that whenever the dome light is on (whether it be switched on from inside the car, or from opening the car door) that the DDEs come on? Because that would be kinda silly. Whatever causes the blinkers to flash when you lock or unlock using the factory remote, must be able to be used to flash the DDEs too??
