Chewing sound while starting car...
Hey guys. I have an odd thing happening to my car. I searched and couldn't find anything about it. Sometimes, when starting my car, it makes a horrible chewing sound. The starter engages, begins turning over the engine and then slows down as if the battery is dying. But, I had the battery replaced recently.
It does this randomly, I cannot attribute this to anything. Plus, when this happens the car BARELY starts. But after it does, everything is ok. One time I heard an odd knocking sound when this was happening.
What can this be? What should I do?
Thanks a lot!
PS. Forgot to add that I had the starter replaced last summer when it was sticking.

Oh, now that you mentioned this... I forgot to mention that I had the starter replaced last summer. The sound is odd. Not exactly "chewing." It is as if the car is bogging down sort of sound. As if there is not enough juice in the battery to start the car.
It starts turning over and then just slows down, almost grinding to a halt. Then it's as if it overcomes some barrier and starts the engine.

Yea, this seems to be the most logical solution. But I just had the started replaced last summer. I mean... this sux if it went bad so quickly...
BTW, I checked battery and alternator and they are working.

replace your starter. Sounds like the pinnion shaft is not retracting once it starts the motor and then instead of it retracting the shaft it is still engaged bogging your engine. Your battery is fine it's just the engine bogging making you think it's got no power. So sticky pinion shaft.
Have them inspect the ring gear on the flywheel as well. I am thinking parts replacement warranty is good for a year so even labour if you had it done there. If you do it yourself make sure you disconnect negative terminal first.
